This has been my experience with them as well. Thanks for the post. I understand a lot of guys say that the longer barrels are unwieldy but when it comes to accuracy the longer barrels are the bomb. I have always owned long barrels and find them more suitable for hunting. Now I will concede if it is purely a back up on a fishing trip in bear country or as a back up to a rifle hunt I would want a smaller barrel. But honestly I don't understand the reasoning otherwise. Maybe help me out here.

personally I'm not a fan of over 6" barrel revolvers, particularly if they are scoped... I've succumbed to the temptation exactly 3 times to steady the revolver on 7.5" scoped guns, by bracing my hand, or a finger against the barrel, and all 3 times, I got my wrist or hand burned by barrel / cylinder blast thankfully I still have all my fingers, but dang does that hurt ( so far, fortunately, never with a "super magnum" or they might be calling me stumpy ) I've never been tempted to steady on the barrel with anything 6" or shorter... plus I much prefer the balance of a 4-6" barrel ![](https://i.ibb.co/qjmK8PN/BFR-s-bases-trimmed.jpg)

I have found out (at my skill level) that the short barrels will outshoot me by a wide margin. I have also shot with a guy on here (Leftysixgun) that is a much better shot than I ever will be and watched him shoot a short barkeep model 45 Colt standing at 200 yards. I have a couple longer barreled revolvers that’s I either scope or put in Ultradot on that are rested only guns but for fun and carry I love the shorter barrels. The great thing is we have choices and multiple guns for different jobs.

Maybe help me out here. I think there's something to be said for the front and rear sights being closer to the same focal plane, especially when using white line rear/vertical white line front sights that many of us here use. For certain situations, carrying a 7.5 inch gun is a real pain- usually things that involve sitting or especially straddling something like an ATV seat or a horse. Anybody who hunts with optics can appreciate the utility of a short barrel without losing shootability. Accuracy of a 5 inch gun is no different than an 8 inch one. For my part, a 4-5.5 inch barrel gives a really nice sight picture when the rear notch and front blade are the same width, but many here feel otherwise.

5.5" is my favorite barrel length, however I do own several with 7.5" barrels too. The super blackhawk hunter seems to balance well in that length, these revolvers all wear ultradot, and are carried in a chest rig.

I can see the point about balance and also previous comments about choices and what suits the shooter. I guess that is what it really boils down to.

Got a call today from BFR motherland just a few minutes ago... My new Bisley gripped 45-70 is on it's way back home... ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Shipped out to MR on 1-24... they called me today, that it's ready to go... by my calculation, that's only a 21 day turn around ( of course they are only a couple 100 miles north of me ) but really happy with that turn around time... back to work on my custom holster

Every experience I have had with MRI working on my BFRs, and recently installing a muzzle brake on my D.E.'s .50 AE Barrel, have been very pleasant, professional, and surprisingly fast.
