...maybe I'll come out next fall instead of the spring...you need someone riding around with you anyway and help get all that meat to the Jeep...

"I hate it when the snow runs those elk right down into town & I don't have to go up to 8,000 ft to find them!"
That reminded me of a passage from Dynamite Fox Trapping by Tom Krause. It's probably been 30 years since I read it; but he essentially says to catch good numbers of foxes, you need to run a lot of good sets in good locations. To do that, you need to prioritize your efforts. Since your time is more important than the foxes', make them do the walking.

John, global warming must have taken a rain check over here, its been pretty cold some days. If you were over here we would load up in the Jeep with a thermos full of hot chocolate, after my buttermilk pancakes & bacon, then if we hit it just right I might just show you 2-3 or 4 herds of 40-50 head of elk in each herd ghosting through the heavy brush or feeding in my buddies hayfields & then it would be pick & choose. After that it would be back to the house for home made chili (I make a great chili) and wash it down with my dutch oven peach cobbler. A guy has to eat right if he's going to be an elk hunter!! Then naps all around while Larry's guys haul in the elk with the tractor, or skid it down the slope with a skid steer. Just saying!!!! Thursday it's off to Montana for white tails first.

It’s been pretty frosty a bit to the North of you guys, every morning. Haven’t hooked the snow blower on the tractor yet, but if you have warm peach cobbler coming out of the Dutch oven, Dick, I might show up on your door step.

OK, hijacking my own thread! Lets make an amazing dutch oven peach cobbler.
Using a warmed dutch oven, pre heat your oven to 400 degrees.
mix 2 cups flour with 2 cups sugar & 1 1/2 cups of milk. add 1 tbl spoon of baking powder & stir together
melt one cube of butter (not margarine) in your dutch oven. pour the batter gently over the melted butter. dice 2 quarts of peaches & gently lay them over the batter & sprinkle a bit of cinnamon over the fruit & bake for about 1 hour or until done. Remove the lid the last 20 minutes for a golden brown crust. And yes the dough will migrate up through the fruit.
Jump back because there's a stampede coming!!! Enjoy!

Sixshot Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler
slightly warm your dutch oven. In a mixing bowl add 2 cups flour, 2 cups sugar & 1 1/2 cups milk & 1 tbl spoon baking powder & stir.
Slice 2 quarts peaches. Melt 1 stick of butter (not margarine) and gently pour the batter over the melted butter. Spoon the sliced peaches gently over the batter & sprinkle some cinnamon on top & bake for about 1 hour or until done at 400 degrees. Take the lid off for the last 15-20 minutes to get a golden brown crust on top. Yes the fruit will migrate up through the batter.
Important: Jump back, because there's a stampede coming!! Don't forget some ice cream! ENJOY!

You should have, doesn't take long to make one! The grandkids always want my cinnamon rolls or a home made cheese cake.....plus the cobbler!
