Ran across a VERY NICE model 25 .45 Colt today 4 in. blued $1100 ish, and a Service six Ruger police trade in from State police. Looked a little dull like it needed a good cleaning. Very lightly used, stock grips, no holster wear, very slight turn ring $5 to 6oo ish. That model 25 called my name out loud but not enough green stamps saved up yet. Old school enough that if you don't have enough stamps saved up, you walk away. They also had a 6 in target Bulldog just a laying there.

Problem with the 25-5 from what I understand is the throats are WAY too big. Back in the 1980s I borrowed a couple when I was an ammunition manufacturer and they didn't impress me with their accuracy...

SUPPOSEDLY THE LATER 25-5's HAD THE CORRECT THROAT SIZE, PERSONALLY I WON'T BUY ANOTHER 25-5 WITHOUT CHECKING THE THROAT SIZE FIRST.
I AM "STUCK WITH" 2 25-3's (THE 125th COMMEMORATIVE MODELS) WITH OVERSIZE THROATS + I HAD ONE FITTED WITH A 45 ACP CYLINDER AND IT ALSO HAS OVERSIZE THROATS. THERE IS AN OUTFIT THAT SELLS SOFTER, FLAT BASED BULLETS, IN .454 (MAYBE LARGER SIZES) THAT ARE SUPPOSE TO UPSET ENUFF TO BE ACCURATE IN THE OVERSIZED THROATS. THEY ARE ALSO SUPPOSE TO BE THE REMEDY FOR THE TYPICAL COLT REVOLVERS IN 45 COLT WITH THEIR OVERSIZED THROATS. I WANT TO TRY THESE OUT AND SEE IF I CAN MAKE SHOOTERS OUT OF MY 25-3's BUT NEED TO FINISH UP SOME OTHER RELOADING PROJECTS FIRST.

It takes considerable force to swage a bullet 3-4 thou by hand. Not claiming a danger but have to wonder if there's a performance hit when asking the gun to do this on every shot?
Anyhow I've seen a few 25-3s locally that I passed on and bought an Anaconda that was 0.456" before I smartened up. Too bad so many guns are set up this way.

The rule of thumb on 25-5’s is to find one without a pinned barrel. They will most always have correct throats. My non-pinned 4” is a tack driver.
