I ran upon a good bit of discussion on the Smith forum on converting single stack S&W Chief Special 40 and converting them to 10mm. Wondering what the options here were. And if someone here had personal experience. Got to admit my interest is stirred.

I guess I’m old. When I hear “Chief’s Special” my mind’s eye sees a J-Frame .38 spl. But the conversion sounds interesting. I’m guessing a chamber reamer would make it happen? What about the magazines?

I'd think that the action of a 40 S&W would be too short for a 10mm. This is why we see 10mm barrels for 45 ACP size Glocks and 40 barrels for 9mm size Glocks.

Then that answers the magazine and action length questions.

So in my research on the Smith forums is this is a fairly easy and reliable conversion. Pretty much a magazine mod and a chamber ream. Their is mixed information on spring weights and the need for buffers. But overall opinions over there are good. Actually there is a member over there doing conversion services at one time at lest. Thinking about hitting JRH up on his thoughts.
