Is now the Walker Colt. 4.5 pounds and over 15 inches in length is sure big enough for a horse pistol! Even though it is a black powder firearm, I was thinking of picking one up "just cuz". They are made by Taylor's, Cimarron and Uberti. How do I know which manufacturer's example to look for?

Uberti is the only manufacturer you listed. Taylor and Cimarron are simply outlets for guns...

they are available finished beautifully, or even as unfinished kits...
I have one bought as an unfinished kit, because my retired tool & die / gun builder buddy was wanting to experiment with one, before he got too old & quit working on guns all together... mine is now chambered with a new cylinder, for a cartridge we call 45 Walker... that is 460 S&W cases shortened an 1/8" just so some dummy down the road, doesn't stick a factory 460 cartridge in the gun... mine is fully functional in its current form ( buddy as he got old just wanted to do the machining, & wasn't interested in the cosmetic finishing ) so it still needs cosmetic finishing... it has a few new tool steel parts, a new arbor, new cylinder, got to play a little with case hardening of the frame ( not with color as a prime motive, but with making it tough enough, hard on the surface, & down 10-20 thousandths & malleable enough inside to keep it from cracking
in factory form, it's a big & heavy gun... & I'd like a finely finished one, to keep original, to go along with my custom...
Thinking I ordered mine up from Dixie Gun Works

Not helpful but the AZ. state gun is the Colt Single Action Army ,,,,,, which makes it easier .

I seriously doubt that Oregon has an official state gun, even if it was a pea shooter the legislature and the governor would be so appalled that they would terminate the category. Gotta love Texas.

Probably the best finish would be one from Cimarron. Of course all "new" Walkers are from Uberti as Pietta has never offered any "horse pistols" to my knowledge. Of course if you're going to shoot it often or with full charges (always fun) it would be advisable to take care of the short arbor (they are all (open tops) short no matter who made it) or they will tend to self destruct as in bent wedges, upsetting barrel material.

Mine is a Replica Arms that came out of the Elmer Keith auction and was written up in the November '71 gunnotes in G&A. To the best of My knowledge it was made by Uberti. Some of the nicest wood and case color I've seen on a replica, at least on the one side.

Somebody, Cimarron I think, is importing a “Lonesome Dove” version of the Walker. No idea if that’s a commemorative or
