Having just recently scoped my 1st 2 handguns, a 44mag SBHH and a 14" TC 430JDJ, I've very little experience. No destroyed scopes here. Digging deep, looking for logic, I'll say I believe that speed(violence) of recoil may be worse than just figuring out the foot lbs of recoil. So the the higher the velo and the lighter the gun..worse on scopes. Those of you that have trashed some scopes, your thoughts ? A particularly wimpy scope, one that suffered with a loose mount for awhile, etc..may skew the numbers.

I had a cheap scope shake the interior reticle lens loose from my .454 Casull Super Redhawk. Only a couple rounds destroyed it. I intentionally bought a cheap one so I could see what I thought. I ended up thinking that the .454 Casull would beat up just about any scope.
