Anyone have this particular rifle? I picked it up recently for a very good price and will be on the hunt for some good glass, soon. In particular, does anyone have experience with the Aimpoint PRO? -Bill

Do you wear glasses or have any kind of astigmatism?

Depending on how good your eyes are and what you plan on doing with the rifle...
Personally I don't care for dot sights except for the now discontinued Trijicon Reflex II and the Meprolite Mepor 21...both are tritium/FO, no batteries involved.
At one time I had a SA SOCOM and had both the Trijicon and a 2.5X Leupold Scout Scope set up for it...it was sold probably 10 years ago.
Last year was able to get a great deal on a SA Scout Squad with synthetic stock. A friend was selling a Burris 2-7 SCOUT scope with the Ballistic Drop reticle. Only use it on two powers, 2X for fast shooting out to 100 yards and 7X for precision shooting out to 600 yards.
Putting a receiver mounted scope on an M1A is a waste... The mount is WAY too high and One has to use a strap on comb pad to even get close to a good cheek weld. And because of all the pressure points along the barrel, when it heats up the barrel bends away from the pressure points as the scope/receiver keeps looking at the target...been there and done that.

I have astigmatism. It got alot better after having Lasik surgery but it is still bad enough that red dots are blurry. Eotech, Aimpoint and most traditional red dots are a no go for me.
I've found Prism scopes to be the answer. Vortex makes a few. They are soild performers and they offer an etched reticle that is independent of the batteries but still have the option of being lit.

Do you wear glasses or have any kind of astigmatism? “No” to having an astigmatism. I do wear mild corrective lenses. Thanks for the feedback!

I put an Aimpoint Hunter on my CETME. Absolutely love the shrouded red dot! It is bigger than a standard red dot, but the sun never distorts the image or the dot with glare. Talk about picking up a hog on the run real fast and watching him flip end over end through the optic even with recoil!
I have the M1A Basic in synthetic. Off a bench, that squishy recoil pad is enough to reset the trigger during recoil and firing 3 round bursts off the bench is not uncommon.

Fine looking rifle. Always had the urge to acquire an M1A Scout Squad, but never followed up on it. At this point my eyes aren't what they once were (cataracts), so don't know if I could make the most of it - without optics. Envious!
Planning to hand load for it?

I had a socom and mounted an aim point pro on it. I used a single low tactical ring. I can’t remember the scope ring, Weaver maybe? I sold it a few year ago.

I have a leatherwood 2x7 scout on my m1a scout they're about $150 it comes in duplex or a bullet drop reticle which i prefer. Surprisingly good glass for the price and 7x is nice for shooting groups and long range. Mounted in warne quick release rings it can be removed easily if i want to use the open sights.
