When the manufacturers get caught up ,are the 2.25” 480’s usually available? Out of no where I have a hankering for one!

Total waste of the cartridges intended potential, IMO.

I love mine... I think it's popular option, & see no reason you won't see them on the shelves again...
off on a tangent...
thinking we may continue to see shortages for a while yet, as materials are in short supply yet... just from my business, I know structural aluminum, & stainless is in extreme short supply... stuff that was manufactured in China, was both not produced during COVID, & is suffering shipping delays, things like cast parts, like steel pulleys, are way, way out right now, but also things like hardware... screws, both steel & stainless

I don’t know the 480 Alaskans have even been in regular supply. They have only seemed to make a few small runs of them out of Ruger typical lawyer proofing concerns, the 454 and 44 cal models have always been way easier to find. Who know when they will make more honestly.
I’d say if you want one keep an eye out on gunbroker and everywhere else and be ready when one pops up.

My 480 Alaskan followed a nephew back home to Fla.. I'll say, of the chamberings offered, the 480 is the most efficient choice. It is the least dependent on pressure and velo to work well. The least punished by chopping barrel back to snubby length. Just sayin'.

Mine was fun, 2020 mfg, had a few small cosmetic issues but Ruger sure enough addressed them and had her back in less than two weeks. My only regret was not being tough enough to handle full tilt loads with the wood or G10 grips

I wish they'd offer the Alaskan in a 4 or 5 inch version.

A 4” version would be perfect.

I have a 480 Alaskan also. It went back to Ruger for sticky chambers and it now ejects case just fine. But then found a barrel constriction and leads like crazy. I have started fire lapping it and its better but Im not done yet. It is crazy accurate with factory Hornady 325s. Those are the only jacketed bullets Ive shot thru it. Im planning to cut a dovetail front sight for it once Im done fire lapping out the constriction.

I have a 480 SRH that I've been thinking about trimming the barrel back to around 5.5" ish. I'd like for it to be able to serve two roles of a primary hunting arm, yet still be short enough to pack easily for protection in the woods.

I have a 9 1/2” SRH that I have the same thoughts for.

I planned to cut back my 7.5" SRH 480 to about 4.80" but after seeing how well it shoots, I just can't bring myself to do it. I'd have to buy a second 480 SRH to cut back.... down the rabbit hole we go!
