I am working on some shot loads for 38/357, 44, and 500JRH. I got the gas checks from Sages and have some #12 shot on the way. I’ve read that 3.5 of Bullseye will work good for the 38/357 but don’t know what to try in the 44 and the 500. I’ve tried 231 in both the 500(7.5grs)and 44(5.5grs) But was wondering if there might be something better?
Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Went to the basement and picked up my Speer #10 from 1984. For the 38/357 they call for 4.5grs of Bullseye. In 44mag they call for 6.0 grs of Bullseye. To remember, these powder charge weights are with their plastic shot capsules and often better groups, and suitable outcome has been found a half a grain or so below the charge weights they recommend. Looking for more velo is NOT the way to go with these kinda loads. Believe I used 6 grains of Bullseye in my homemade 480 shot load. Luck. Do wish Speer would add 32 and 475/480 size capsules for sale. When they went to red capsuled loads with larger shot I was hopeful that they'd keep on looking for more applications. Mavbe someday. Good luck.

8gr. Of unique is what i use for 500 Linebaugh and 500 Linebaugh max, and the max holds 390-410gr. Of shot.

Good thread. I’m loading 284 Winchester in full moon clips for my 480 Redhawk........ Would like the details on this. I’ve got a couple of 480’s I’d like to make some shot shells for 284 has a 45 acp sized rim. And a base within a thousandths or 2 of the 480 base. Debated rim So standard full moon clips for 45 ACP will work. Probably a 45 colt die to size where the bullet is on a 480 ....for the neck. Dam. I didn’t check the ID at work today!!!!! I will Tuesday.......That will be the base gas check to use. Over the powder And a 45 colt gas check to top it off. And a bit of glue. Using it in a 4”....I may lap a bit of the rifling out so it doesn’t spread as much. Trim to about the base of the neck on the 284. I have enough brass to get you started. At about 4/5 full there was over 3/4 Oz of shot. That is rough.....may change. Either way. That’s what I got.... Oh. Cylinder has to be cut for moon clips. Keep in touch. Send a PM and I’ll send enough to get you started.

The base case for the 475L is a 4570, you should be able to simply trim the rim a bit and go with that, also be able to make full cyl. Length rounds. I’ve never had an issue with too much spread if you go without a wad or shot retention device. My experience is that the wad gets caught in the rifling and imparts spin, if it’s just shot and over wads no problem.

Moon clips loaded are easier to keep track of a loaded full moon clip. I’ll try without the wad

What I have experienced is that without a wad I get leading. It's not too hard to scrub out, just something to keep an eye out for.
