Since you're looking for "non-white grips" here you go. This is one of Bloodhound's revolvers and I hope he doesn't mind me posting his pic, but I've always liked the way these grips looked on his revolver...........i BELIEVE they are mesquite

Mark, that revolver actually belongs to a close friend of mine. It indeed is a .475 built by Huntington and essentially what I am basing my .500 Max on (as far as the look is concerned -- barrel band, Bisley grip frame, etc.). I don't know how its features compare to the Bowen Nimrod, I would have to look it up on Bowen's website. The workmanship is fantastic. Huntington made the grips from California grown English walnut (he has a piec set aside for my max!).

I like a little bit of everything on blued guns but don't particularly care for very dark grips on dark guns. By contrast, I usually like "white" grips (stag, ivory, micarta) on "silver" guns and again, don't particularly care for very dark grips but find them more tolerable than on blued guns.

I like light and dark grip both on blued guns. Here are black mycarda on blued/CCH S6. These Stags are on a FT 357. These black mycarta grips are on a 44spl FT. These ivory gtips are on a John Gallagher 45colt/45ACP FT. And last but not least, highly figured walnut on a ROA. Bill

I'd like to know the source for some of these gorgeous wood grips. Especially whitworth's and the highly figured walnut ROA. Jack Huntington duly noted. Much obliged, gentlemen.

Buck, if your asking about the walnuts on my ruger old army, I wish I knew who made them. I bought them at a gun show out of a box of parts. The guy I bought them from dodn't know who made them or how he got them. Bill

Buck, No offense meant. I do understand that some people would think that some of the spaulted maple grips that I make are much too "busy" looking. I also understand that there is nothing wrong with good ol' blue steel and walnut. There's just no pleasing everybody. I'm biting my own tongue as I'm saying this but a gun doesn't need a set of $150 grips to be aesthetically pleasing. But sometimes it doesn't hurt. I like holly grips and of course I like ivory but I have to say that I don't like Ruger's faux ivory grips. To me they are a kind of sickly looking color. Somehow they remind me of looking through a thin layer of skim milk. By the way, I prefer brunettes.
