I don't have one to measure, but are the 357 NM cylinders shorter in length than the cylinders of other calibers? I'm referring to regular ol' standard size NM Blackhawks, not the mid frames. Looking to possibly rechamber a stainless 357 cylinder to 41 mag, but don't want to end up with a cylinder that can't handle the longer bullets. Any help?

yes, the .357 cylinders are a bit shorter than the cylinders in other calibers.
I asked a similar question about using a .357 cylinder to make a min spec 45Colt and was told it wouldn't quite cut it. I searched for my thread, but can't find it. Might have been on the previous site. I own a couple O.M .357s but no new model .357s so I can't give you a measurment.

Ruger's Cylinder Lengths are proportional to calibre. The barrel extensions into the cylinder window are inversely proportional to calibre.
On cannot stuff a .44 mag cylinder into a .41 mag frame w/o removing the barrel. Wise move on Ruger's part, even though it's SO FRUSTRATING to we "parts swappers".
JMHO,

JMHO, Carl I heard of a guy once who has a .44 special cylinder stuck in a OM .357 with the .357 barrel still on it. That's crazy, huh?

The .30 Carbine cylinder is pretty long; but then the cartridge is SAAMI spec'd at 1.68" oal. Why not simply buy a .41 Mag cylinder?

I'm thinking buy a 357 max cylinder... Modify the barrel to eliminate the extension into the cylinder window so that a maximum cylinder window cylinder can be fitted.... Trim the max cylinder to fit and recamber to 41... Maybe even a 1.4 inch 41.. Slap a little hard chrome on that bad boy and.....

Groo here The new vaquero cylinder is about 1.64 for max cartridge length. This will be no problem for factory spec magnum rounds [1.6in]. I am having Andy make a 41 mag conversion ..

Actually, it should look better than that right now, with black eagle medallions and an OM "no bump" sight fitted a little cleaner thant one pictured.

Why not simply buy a .41 Mag cylinder? 41 cylinders in stainless are just about impossible to find. They were only made for the AcuSport Bisleys and the Hunters; both limited production guns. I was contemplating using a Max cylinder and having it Metallifed when one of our awesome members here offered up a SS one from an AcuSport he had. All is well. Hey John, is that your 1.4" 41? Looks like it wiil be sweet. The one I'm working on will be just like that one except in 41 mag. XR3-RED, SBH hammer, 6" bbl, slicking up and grips
