Picked this Uberti Callahan up a few years ago. It has turned out to be one fine shooting revolver. All of these guns came only in 44 Magnum. The only thing this gun has in common with Dirty Harry Callahan is the caliber. Still, it's what Uberti chose to name it.
This last year I ordered five cylinders from various Uberti Dealers. I've slowly fit each one to my existing Ubertis to make them more versatile.
This particular gun got a 44-40 Cylinder. Fitting Uberti Cylinders is easy to the extreme due to the removable bushing. I tried to fit this one with a .002" barrel gap. It came out .0015", so I quit there. Uberti 44-40 Cylinders come with .4305" throats. They all chamber .430/.431" bullets just fine.
The other upgrade I finished this morning. Uberti Grips are just boring. So, I ordered a set of Imitation Ivory Grips and converted the gun to a more conventional two piece setup.
My only complaint with this gun will be solved next. The 44 Magnum Cylinder came with .429" throats. That cylinder will be sent to Fermin and opened up to .431".
This gun shoots as good as it looks. Fit and finish (sadly) smokes most American Guns.
These Uberti Threads are never popular. But, I like their guns and believe them to be some of the few remaining bargains in shooting.

Thanks for posting that...
Something along the same discussion we had about Contenders. These guns are sturdy. I keep my Uberti 44-40 Loads at or under 20k PSI. These guns are chambered for the 45 ACP and I've never heard any warning about using 45 ACP +P. The 44-40 (and 38-40) cylinder has more steel left in it than the 45 ACP.
This pressure allows for some fairly spunky loads. Most of mine mimic the old Keith 44 Special Loads. Honestly, a 240 grn @ 1200 fps will do about anything I need.

I'm a fan of Uberti revolvers. Have a 45 Colt 3.5" CMS thats a lot of fun to shoot, and accurate. I also have a collection of percussion revolvers too. All seem very well made.

They are extremely good guns. Many hesitate to post about them. For decades they took a beating from the Colt Crowd.
Hope it's clear who's the winner there. I've noticed they sell out quickly. Obviously, lots of people have figured it out...

A couple of months ago I picked up a model P from Cimarron in 32-20, sent it out to have a little work done, something I do with all my SA's. Im really liking this one so far. I also just got, last weekend, something I've always thought would be fun to have and shoot, Cimarron 1851 navy Richards Mason conversion. Haven't fired that one yet, but I to, have come to like the quality of these guns every since I purchased my 1st, a Beretta Stampede in 45 Colt. Those that are died in the wool purists on SA's may have a problem with these, but, I to have a few Colts and many Rugers, but Im finding Uberti's to be a close second? Maybe even an equal. crash87

I surely appreciate these threads. I look at Uberti guns a lot now where I didn't before, and expect I'll buy one or two one of these days.

My Uberti Flattop Target Revolvers are my favorite to take to the bench. I wish they'd build these in more calibers. I have the 44-40/44 Special and the 45 Colt/45 ACP. I'll eventually get these upgraded with grips and post here...

I picked up a 44 special Uberti cylinder and 44 WCF barrel -4.75”. I was told that the barrel is the same as 44 special barrel. Just different stamping. The donor gun is a 357 SAA clone. They have been sitting around for over a year.
Can anyone recommend a barrel and frame vice?

No help on a vice, but can tell you the barrels are the same. My Uberti 44 Special, 44 Magnum and 44-40s all slug the same. Interestingly enough, the 44-40 and 44 Special throats measure .0015" larger than the 44 Magnum.

I'm a big fan of Uberti single action revolvers, and I own a good few of them. I especially like doing a little light work on them myself to satisfy my very limited gunsmithing jones.

I really like the fact that parts are easily obtained. Even cylinders and barrels are easy to get and fit. The removable bushing is a lifesaver to the home gunsmith.

There is a Uberti made “Mitchell Arms SAA Target” 44 mag for sale locally for cheap but it is missing the ejector rod and housing. I wonder if current ones would fit it?

If not, I bet it would be an easy fix. Lots of crafty smiths out there...
