What in the world are those vases made of? Kind of reminiscent of mushroomed rifle (artillery?) bullets (bringing the whole thing closer to topic). Looks a mite sharp, too...

They are the result of in-bore detonations of 40mm hi vel grenade rounds in a Mk 19 grenade MG.
You're right, the steel is sharp.
