MEAN lookin' gun...that should run full tilt 10mms just fine...
In looking at your gun it reminded me of the only thing I didn't like about mine...the ambi-safety... The right side always rubbed on my knuckle....

The magazine is hard to get in with the slide closed, but it may just need some break-in time. Same issue with my GI Standard. It should break in. Adjustable rear sights and fiber-optic front are nice. My GI Standard sights were... well... GI standard, so I got a cheap MOS plate from Brownells to replace the rear and put a Burris red dot on it.

So here's my update so far. My first shots were with some of my reloads. 180 grain Speer TMJ at about 1,250 FPS. I had a TON of failure-to-return-into-battery malfunctions. I think 12 out of 32 rounds. Then at least 5 more on the next 13 rounds. I was out of my reloads so I switched to S&B 180 grain FMJ at about 1,165 FPS and... NOT ONE MALFUNCTION IN ALL 50 ROUNDS. I am not above swallowing my pride when it comes to reloading and I am forced to conclude that it was a bad reload batch on my part. I also tested 10 reloads from a new batch with ZERO problems, and chronographed two more types of factory ammo, ten total rounds, no malfunctions. So, excluding my bad batch, I have about 70 rounds that are malfunction free. Very happy with the gun, not so much with my reloading skills. 🤣
I have noticed the mainspring is still catching a bit when I close the slide by hand. I am sure this will go away once the gun is full broken in. Accuracy is good. It was shooting a little low and left, but it came with adjustable sights. So that was an easy fix. Overall, I am very happy. Thanks for the recommendation, fellas!

Man, I think I spent $300 and change for my (base-model) RIA prior to the late unpleasantness. QuickDraw McG's assessment -- figure out what ammo it likes and use that ammo -- I find to be accurate. I believe the magazines are more important than the ammo. It's a 1911, not a Glock. I think Rock Islands are excellent guns for the price. Are you going to have to dork around for a while to figure out what works best? Yes.

So, I mentioned it was hard to seat the magazines when the slide was closed, and today that problem worsened. Now, the magazines, all four, would drop out of the gun on almost every shot. I had a gunsmith look at it, and when field-stripped, he spotted the issue. The slide appears to be out of spec. It is making contact on the right hand side with the magazine. There is obvious wear. So, I called RIA and they instructed me to fill out the warranty information on their website, which I did, and they will send me a RMA label in 1 to 3 business days. Now I play the waiting game. I will keep you guys apprised of what happens next. I hope they can fix this, the gun shoots nicely and has no other issues.
SIDE NOTE: Yes, I thought i was pressing the mag release too. But after sticking both thumbs away from the gun, I can assure you it is definitively not shooter-error.

At least we will get some info on the quality of RIA's customer service.

I want to see the new two thumbs up hold I haf to lean left while the wife took the photo. Satisfied, Mr. skeptic? Hopefully next time you can give me the benefit of the doubt. I know it's the internet and people are pretty sketchy but this was the most obvious thing to check and what I hoped I had been doing. The gun fits really well in my hand and shoots solid groups. It has digested everything so far except for one sketchy batch of reloads I made which is my fault, not the gun's. I am hoping RIA will give this a quick turn around as I am eager to put a lot of lead downrange with it.

Squawberryman was just kidding.
The "two thumbs up hold" on a 1911 is how I was taught close quarters combat. Dont look at the sights. Line up your thumbs and pull the trigger. This mainly works for rapid shots going from room to room clearing a building. (SWAT tactic).

AKA "humping dogs. lol Common for things like Glocks, SIGs, HK, etc etc, to avoid holding down the slide release on those inferior designs. Not a fan. My question is always how do you shoot one handed? With your thumb out in space? Almost no one does, they hold it differently. To me having two different grips for one gun isn't a good idea. But that's a different topic.

In fairness, it was my first suspicion as it's the most common and obvious answer. I realize now I came off as defensive but I really just wanted to illustrate that I did look for the most obvious error in this case which is shooter error.
