I CAN'T IMAGINE LIVING IN A COMMUNIST COUNTRY INSTEAD OF HERE IN IDAHO. It's just a matter of time... I HOPE AND PRAY YOU ARE WRONG BUT...............

Moved from a Red State...to a Red State...to a Red State. Tennessee to Kentucky to Alabama. Kentucky passed Constitutional "permitless" carry a couple of years ago...Tennessee just did. Alabama is a "shall issue" state...the Sheriff HAS to issue a pistol permit unless there is a legal reason, such as a felony etc, that prevents legal carry. All that and gumbo, redfish, cheese grits, crawfish pie, softshell crab po'boys...why would I ever leave???

The snakes Haven't seen the first snake here..my friends in Ohio who live near Mosquito Lake have rattlesnakes. There is a surprising lack of mosquitos here. I got ate up in Kentucky just 15 miles south of Indiana. No gutters on most houses here and water doesn't stand on this sandy soil...so no breeding grounds. The heat..definitely hot if you stand out in the sun. Seek shade. It's very comfortable in my back yard...always a breeze off the Bay. Humidity..well..we have those two new-fangled devices.."air conditioning" and "dehumidifiers". I don't recommend a manual labor outdoors career here, but for us retired folk it's wonderful. I think maybe you have more pre-conceived ideas than experience. :-) I *did* have 17" of snow, ice storms and tornados where I used to live. Trade-offs.

You are correct on pre-conceived notions. I believe I better look a little more carefully at Alabama as a place to get out of communist NY. I work outdoors and even summer in upstate NY with the humidity can be quite miserable so I see every state south of me and east of the Mississippi as NY in the summer, just months longer than we have here.

We were blessed to land where we did..seems to always be a breeze. I just purchased a generator for the expected hurricane induced power outages. Neighbor has lived here 20 years, he doesn't seem to be worried. I actually like it better here than any place I ever lived. Alabama has put a LOT of money into highway construction, the roads, at least around here, are great. C'mon down!
