In Louisiana we have what us called a "Primitive Wespon Season" in which an exposed hammer single shot 35 caliber or larger qualifies. So I purchased an 1885 highwall in 30-06 and sent it to Jess Rebore and he rebored it to 35 Whelen with a 1 in 10 twist. I tried 3 different factory loads in it, the 180 grain TTSX Vortex, the 200 grain Hornaday Superformance and the Nosler 225 grain Accubond I shot a 3 shot group with each at 100 yards with a front rest on the rifle forearm on 1 knee with no upper body support. I am very pleased with the rifle See the target when it it posted
PS, thanks to Lee Martin for posting the picture

Sounds like a dandy of an elk rifle to me. I have a 1895 Winchester lever gun that I have thought would make a fine 35 Whelen as well but it remains a 30/06 running 220gr Partitions…

That's some fine shooting from that position.
