Was wondering if any of you that have/had a TLA knows if a Bowen Rough Country old model flattop rear sight will fit? I think I’ve read that Grover used the Ruger micro sight on his guns, but I’m not positive. I have a few BRC sights, but they’re not for the flattop models. Any help will be very much appreciated.

Kim, This is a TLA Improved #5 with the factory sights along with a Bowen Rough Country (RCFTSS) flat top sight. Eyeballing it, I think it is a match. If you need any measurements, let me know and I’ll grab some calipers and get them for you. Tim

Thanks, Tim. That looks as if it will work. I may take you up on the offer if no one knows for sure.
Mr. Taffin, thanks for the suggestion, but I was going to call Mr. Bowen as a last resort - didn’t want to bother a busy man if I didn’t have to.

My #5 has a sight from a 58 or 59 flattop. One of the rare ones with an index mark on the elevation screw. It should fit your TLA.

I was thinking it would fit, but curious if anyone had actually tried one. There’s nothing wrong with the sight on my #5, but I intend to hunt with it and the white outlined rear just works better for me in a hunting situation.

Update for the inquiring minds: i ended up calling Hamilton and he wasn’t sure if one would work or not, so I experimented. I received the BRC sight about three weeks ago, but I’ve been a little busy and haven’t followed up. I also haven’t had time to take photos, so…… the sight will work on the a TLA #5 with some custom hand fitting. I slowly hand fitted it in about three hours. The main obstacle was the pivot pin hole was about .002-.003” off and I had to make the hole in the sight oblong and fabricate a different pin. The end result turned out great and greatly improved the sight picture and shot groups.
