My custom 3" Model 1902 S&W is getting a bit long-in-tooth (and after 110 years who can blame it?) so when I stumbled across a nice of .38 M&P I decided I'd found a suitable replacement. I cut and re-crowned the barrel at 3", fabricated and installed a new front sight, bobbed the hammer and cut away the trigger-guard on the right for faster access for my big, fat trigger-finger. I made a set of custom Pao Ferro grips fitted to my hand, hand-sanded them to 3000-grit then applied 5 coats of lacquer. I'm very pleased with the result; this gun has an amazing trigger; light, smooth and no stacking but ignition has been 100%. As a bonus it fits all of the 'Old Dog's' leather. The front sight is a best-guess based on the original sight, but it might be a bit tall; I tend to err on that side as it's far easier to remove material than it is to add it. I'm looking forward to shooting it in it's new configuration, and after suitable testing it's going to be my new EDC.

Smith and Wesson should build a few thousand of these. Perfect CCW gat, at least for my money.

I’d have had to go FULL FAKE FITZ on it, I’ve been trying to find an old Colt or SW for that purpose for awhile. Nicely done.

Love it!!! Great work and concept. My only worry would be that sharp rear edge on the sight catching on my holster on a draw.

I'd love a heater like that!

Love it!!! Great work and concept. My only worry would be that sharp rear edge on the sight catching on my holster on a draw. That's a valid concern, but with my holster and normal manner of dress it hasn't proven to be an issue for me personally. YMMV.

I've an older Colt PP 38 Spec 4" that might benefit from that kinda treatment.

Excellent work Tinker! As always! I have a model 10 you could give the same treatment to if you were so inclined. No, not really. I know that would involve licenses and shipping. But I will hold my "ugly duckling" up next to yours and dream.
I bought a bunch of police model 10 turn in's when they were 150.00 each. Down to my last 3.

How about a little info on mounting the sight.

How about a little info on mounting the sight. I used a cut-off wheel in the Foredom tool to make a slot in the top of the barrel then silver-soldered the sight in place using low-temperature silver-solder. After test-firing I trimmed it a bit to bring the POI up slightly.
