Most banded barrels I have seen are straight contour. Wondering how one with a light taper would look. I don't want to spend too much on this step, so I'll abandon it if my gunsmith doesn't want to do it. Just wanting some opinions before I bounce it off someone whose time can be better spent actually working on my projects instead of talking about my new ones. 5.5" .41 - this is the stainless/CCH gun. Thinking about popping off the front sight and taking the barrel down another .100 to .150 at the end of the ERH, creating a step like we see on the banded big bores, but this would be an increased taper up until the band. This gun will already be pretty "busy" with stainless and CCH, so I'm soliciting opinions. Leave any issue you imagine with the mechanical fitment of the ERH out of the picture. I'm interested strictly in aesthetics opinions. Standard NM frame profile. SBH hammer. XR3-RED grip frame with (unknown) grips. Hammer and frame CCH, all else SS. If possible, modify and use a take off FA front sight base.

I'm having a hard time visualizing the barrel but that doesn't mean it won't look good. Rifles with tapered and banded barrels look good so I wouldn't expect this to be that much different. I think I have some sort of problem with the CCH (or blue, for that matter) and stainless but I recognize that's a personal problem.
What about a fluted barrel and cylinder with a band?

What about a fluted barrel and cylinder with a band? Fluted barrel I get, I don't think I would like it though. But - cylinder with a band? I don't get it. I'm picturing a cylinder with a groove all the way around through the middle... If I don't like the CCH, I can always come back and hard chrome just the frame and the hammer. Maybe you can sleep easier knowing I already have that contingency plan in place.

The German P-1 are tapered with a barrel band, I think they look fine and a barrel band on a taper should be pretty easy.

What I should have said was " fluted cylinder, fluted barrel with a barrel band". Banded cylinder? I ain't close to that creative or twisted.

You know I hadn't thought about how it would look with a fluted cylinder and a barrel band. I can't recall seeing one wiith those two items.
Anyway, project has been tabled. Gonna stick with factory contour and sights and try out a polished out alloy ERH. There can be complications with the ER angle, barrel wall thickness, and cost makes it not worth messing with a factory barrel. Kind of a do it right or don't do it thing. Playing it by ear from there. I will get the cylinder fluted/ BP chamfered.
