A 30-06 would take a lot more powder to reach the same ballistics and definitely produce more noise and recoil.
The joy of the 30-30 Ackley is efficiency. It provides better ballistics, case life, etc over the original case. Also, the case capacity makes it a much better choice for cast bullet loads than a 308, 30-06, etc.
I could have simply bought one in 308 Win. But, this is the route I chose to take.
Sighting will be a Sig Whiskey 3-9x BDC Scope.

Case life is a good topic. For what it is worth start with new brass. A good stiff form load and move on. I have shot the cartridge at high pressure. Case life is excellent when starting with new brass. Not as good when using old brass. Your problem will come with cases broken at the pressure ring. You will not gain much from niecking up and forming back down with a false shoulder. Expermenting with brass is fun. Try some .375 Winchester. It will not increase case life nor allow higher pressure than .30-30 brass. If you are getting less than 10 shots after fire forming, something is wrong. Case life is good for the .30-30 Improved.
Ranch Dog and I talked cast bullets some on the beartooth bullets forum. The short neck cases some problems. RD shot moderate cast loads with success. I can do that in the regular .30-30.
You can start and stop your powder selection with H4895 for all around use. Hodgdon Varget for high pressure best accuracy. Alliant Reloder 15 for high velocity. Imr 4007 was Great but the recall finished that. Some of the newer powders are fine but these three will you started.

There is some advantage to the 30-30 Ackley in a lever action. But, the bullets still need to be deep seated to function through the action. With a Single Shot Rifle, Spitzer Bullets seat less in the case adding to the already "Improved" case capacity. Jack Huntington and our own FlyingZebra will be doing the rechamber/remarking. You could ask Jack to lengthen the throat a little bit more so you can seat out bullets even longer.

I had that same thought. I'm going to check it out before I send it off.
Thanks for that input...

For single shots gunsmith David White has quite a bit of experience. I think he is now precision Riflesmith LLC South of Tulsa
He has built many .30-30AI rifles. He posted many pictures on the Beartooth Shooters forum.

JRH Advanced will be doing the work on this gun.
He's done great work for me in the past and I expect this will be the same.
Appreciate the info though...
