Bought this, my first Abilene, off a GunBroker auction (thanks to Bloodhound for scaring up the link, and thanks to Lee for the guidance). Early Mossberg Abilene, according to Lee probably assembled in 1980 - that was a good year, I graduated high school and cast my first Presidential vote for the great Ronaldus Magnus. Anyway... Beautiful sixgun, slightly plum cylinder, really slick action, and sends bullets right where I want it to. Lee, splain this to me please: As I said, this is my first Abilene. The second, a short-barreled .44 Magnum, is on the way! Now I need a Seville or two...

Great looking pistol Boge. You Quinn boys don't waste much time in shooting a new pistol! I've had my Abilene in fixed form for several months and still have not shot it. Hope to remedy that soon..... Thanks for sharing the pics.

I don't believe in having sixguns I've never shot. So I get it out of the way quickly, and it may be 6 months before I shoot it again!

Really nice Abilene Boge. Even cleaner than the auction photos suggested. I'm also pretty sure that's factory stag. The hammer cut-out houses the anvil link. Serves the same purpose as Ruger's transfer bar, but operates more like FAs "sliding" safety. -Lee www.singleactions.com

That's money well spent right there, congrats! The plum cylinder is interesting to me, usually it's just about everything else that turns plum on most guns.

I love the hammers on those things.
Do all Abilenes make a cylinder ring, like NM Rugers, or does it only come from improperly de-cocking the hammer?
