I just got a Freedom Arms 83 454 Casull and all I can say is WOW! I bought it used and the pictures were not super clear so I paid my money and hoped for the best. When I opened the box, it was immaculate. Since I am a long time gun junky, my attention has now turned to a companion rifle. Does anyone have experience with the BHA in 454 Casull?

The gentleman who designed them is on here often and might chime in. They have an excellent rep for durability and handling, I have a buddy who bought a 460 version and quickly followed that up to 2 more in different calibers. That says something I think.

I would love to have a 16” octagonal barreled, 90A to match me model 83. You almost never see them for sale. Some day I’ll order one.

This is on my want list too. I'm just torn on the 18" or 22".

Will their .454 shoot the .45 Colt also? I asked them the other day about firing the .480 Ruger in their .475 Linebaugh gun and they said it would probably be too short for the lifter

The model 90 owners though, 460S&W, say theirs won’t cycle Colt at all. You have to single feed them. They also stated the 90 can cycle Casull, but only if you hold it at a certain angle and even then only if you cycled with authority. So it’s not recommended.

HOW DO YOU MOUNT OPTICS ON THESE RIFLES? I NEVER PAID MUCH ATTENTION TO THESE RIFLES BECAUSE THEY SEEM TO BE OPEN SIGHTS ONLY.

I HUNTED NILGAI ANTELOPE ON A 60,000 ACRE HUNTING LEASE IN SOUTH TEXAS WITH A STEYR SCOUT IN .376 AND, FOR ME, I FOUND THE SCOUT SCOPE A POOR CHOICE FOR RIFLE HUNTING MOVING GAME, AND A POOR CHOICE IN LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS.

Damn, that’s a BIG antelope to miss.......bout as big as the side of some of my barns. Just sayin. Then again, 60,000 acres is a pretty big pen for them give you the slip in. Next time just find the joke in the fence, and hide beside the nearest bush.

A SCOUT SCOPE IS BASICALLY A PISTOL SCOPE, WITH A VERY NARROW FOV, USUALLY NOT ENUFF FOV TO LEAD A RUNNING ANIMAL, AND ON THAT LEASE THE NILGAI HARDLY EVER STAND STILL.
ON A LION HUNT IN MOZAMBIQUE IN 2001 I HAD A MONSTER MANED LION COME IN, AFTER DARK, WITHIN 30 OR SO YARDS, 2 MEMBERS OF THE CREW GOT SCARED AND MADE NOISE SO THE LION STARTED WALKING OFF, WITH MY SCOPED FA 454 REVOLVER I COULD NOT LEAD THE LION AND KEEP IT IN THE SCOPE, SO I NEVER SHOT.
