I was in town the other day, and on a whim decided to go into the local pawn shop/gun store. I might do this about every other month or so just out of curiosity. You know, just to see what’s there. Not really intending to buy anything, just looking. The rifle racks were slim to almost bare. No ammo or makings anywhere in sight. But, in the almost empty pistol display case, that a year ago was full of all kinds of semi-autos and DA revolvers, sat one lonely single action revolver.
Yup, it was an Uberti Stallion 4 ¾ “ in 38 Spl. Neat little pistol about the size of my Ruger Single Six, but in 38. Well, I talked to the sales “person” about the particulars of the pistol and that was of no help. So I waited until a fella (who usually wipes down the firearms after they’ve been handled) was finished with his customer. I asked him about the “Taylor & Company” Uberti. He seemed to know a thing or two about it and mentioned that they’ve had it in the display case for over two years. Apparently nobody wanted a “measly little 38 cowboy gun”. I told him I might be interested if the price was reasonable. He said, “hang on a minute” and went into the back of the store to talk to the manager.
When he came back out, he told me he could let it go for 10% above cost (<400) and would throw in a box of shells (100 count). It might as well have been a lost puppy. I couldn’t help myself and I did the deal. And man, this pistol, I’m impressed (once I got the hang of sight alignment and trigger control for this particular critter).
So, I’m throwing out the following questions on here. I’m all ears for anyone’s experience with this make/brand of firearm (hopefully with particular reference to this model). Any mechanical concerns? Anyone have advice on parts? You know the old saying, “A gun is not really yours until you void the warranty”.
