Had a day off today ! Wound up a couple gun stores ! (shocking i know). This one shop had a couple revolvers that caught my Eye. A model 24 that i like a bunch ! So as i was leaving i notice a Colt lightning pump 22 in a rack behind the counter. I said that's pretty cool i never shot one of those. I asked How much ? Guy says it is the most expensive gun in the place. I was a little surprised, Then the guy says without my asking , it's 8200.00 ! I said wow , is it a special rare model or something ? He yells no, it's 140 years old. And still yelling asks what do you think an old gun like that should sell for ? I said i don't know, but i could find out easy, And he repeats the question, 2 more times, loud ! So i grab my phone and said , I will find out ! and he says i can do that myself, And i replied , then why did you aske me 3 times ? I was just asking about a cool old gun, And if the price was right i might have been interested. When he said 8200.00 i thought it must pretty darn special somehow ! So asked if it was and guy get's all crappy with me. I just Checked Gun's international. None are even close to that price. I think i will stay the hell out of there ! The @#$% would look just great with a 8200.00 pop sickle stick tickling his navel from the inside ! ...tj

Dang. I hate people like that. I would just stay out of there personally. You aren't likely to get a deal and you already know the guy is silly, so I wouldn't bother.

There is a old gun shop here in Denver who has a wide variety of guns, many of them interesting to crew here.
Most of their crew are young enough that they don't really understand revolvers much less old ones but I don't expect they would. They have this old Triple Lock Smith in 44sp under the case, it has a 3 1/2" or so long barrel and adjustable sights for under $2500. I couldn't get a really good look at it through the glass and so I asked if it is all original though I am 98% sure it isn't. The guy goes "yup pretty sure", can I look at it please? "You going to buy it?" Well I will if it is all original for that price (this shop is no fool with prices, no one steals guns from them) and he wouldn't show it to me! I had just picked up my son from baseball practice and had worked out while he was at practice so I know I looked unkept and sweaty but what the heck! I sorted out it wasn't original at all, it had been a fixed sight gun that had had a more modern S&W rear sight mated to it and a incorrect front sight once I had a chance to do a little sniffing around. But to say I was a little put off would be a understatement. That was last summer and they still have that gun, I have seen it listed online a few times since but oh well. Sort of a cool package for a Bubba Triple lock though...
Not a shop I like to frequent for obvious reasons, come to think of it I did get a heck of a deal on a Winchester 1895 in there although it was a consignment gun...

This shop Is in Gresham Oregon. I am Not to likely to go in there again soon. But he did have some other guns that i thought were fairly priced. A model 24 with a 2 .5 or 3 inch barrel at 1200.00 one of the new King Cobra 4 inch target guns for under a grand. But a few blocks away is Keith's sporting goods. A first class out fit, and always has something good in the used revolver case ! When Keith insults me he is smiling and it makes me feel welcome !

Some people who like guns don't belong in sales dealing with the public. Would have been a better choice to become gunsmiths. We have a shooting range in Southampton Pa that is a top notch facility. Not one friendly face behind the counter. Their sales would soar with a different staff.

People in a retail/sales position, whether they’re owners or employees, usually find out two things fairly quickly. First, asking and getting are two different things. You can ask whatever you want for your item (gun, knife, glass eye, etc.,) but don’t be shocked if you don’t get it. Second, if you enjoy sleeping indoors and eating regularly, folks don’t suffer verbal abuse well. You walked in. Walk out.

There used to be 2 gun shops here in town. Both had good employees, fair prices, etc. Then the actual owner of 1 shop decided he could run his store better than the employees. What a total, mean old troll, and all of his prices went nutso. I never went back after I met him the first time.
Now there is one shop here in town. Nice owners, great employees, and even considering this covid mess we're all going through, they still have fair prices. I've lost count of the number of guns I've bought there, and the transfers I've done through that shop. They are a real asset to our town.
Even when I was working at Cabela's, most of my purchases still went through this small shop.

There's a cranky old bastage who runs a pawn shop in a lake town we frequent. He usually has a few lever actions, all priced about $150 over the going rate. I saw an old straight grip Mossberg 472 30-30 in there and asked what he wanted for it. He said "That Marlin is a collector's item. $600." There wasn't a Marlin in the rack.
I said No sir, I was asking about the Mossberg. It went downhill from there.

Same sorry SOB, different shop. These guys are everywhere. Maybe it is the stress of declining sales because of their approach to potential customers? One shop went belly up local recently. Worst one here I will not consider dealing with, especially with all the great folks at other shops, they get my business.
