I found a 625-6 S&W Mountain gun at a local shop today and I would like to know if anyone could tell me what to look out for on this model, and aprox.date of build. It has the hammer mounted firing pin and the rear sight has been replaced with a set of Millet adjustable sights. It appears to be tight and in good shape but they are asking $549.00 with no box or papers. I feel the price is a little high but there is not many of these around this area. Any advice or answers would be helpful Thanks.

Great gun. I don't think you will find one for too much less - especially since it doesn't have the lock, and has a "real" metal hammer and trigger. Built 1995-1997.
Prices will continue to escalate on these. Get it. -- Br.

Thanks Br. for the reply, I have been thinking about it all night and if the cylinder chambers are not over sized I will probably go get today.

Cylinder chambers can be fixed easily by CAS for $30 plus shipping. And most of the .45s of that period are OK - it was the earlier 25-2 and early 25-5s that were oversized. -- Brian

I went to the shop today and checked the cylinders and they all are at .451. You are right it is a great gun and it is now part of my collection. I will try to post some pictures in a couple of days and thanks for your replies Brian

Ya done good! Get some nicer stocks now that you're done kicking the tires. I'd love to find one like that, or in ACP, .41 or .357

Fantastic find, s0therngunner!!! One of my absolute must-have tools! I have the 25-13 (blued with the stupid lock) and enjoy it very much but won't rest till I find your tool in one of my local shops.

I just happen to have a couple of toad stabbers, my favorite is a custom made by Mr. Bart Draper a good friend of mine. It is a one of a kind that we designed together and he did a fantastic job building it , the other is a Randall that I have had for about 25 years. ;D
