I am trading into a Dan Wesson stainless, 6 inch 357 magnum and am trying to figure out fair market value. Shroud and nut barrel, Dan Wesson Palmer, Mass. USA.
Thoughts on value? Mechanically excellent. Good overall condition; few miniature marks here and there. Original styrafoam box and sleeve. Opinions wanted.

Check out the DW forum. I recently found them,, as I traded into a DW pistol pack, with 4 barrels. Plus,, you can do an advanced search on GB for completed auctions,, to get current ideas.

I have not tried the Dan Wesson forum yet, but completed auctions on Gunbroker showed everything from 550.00 to 2500.00. I dont know what to think.

I can share my thoughts but that's all they are . Assuming great shape and mechanically fine. A finish worn DW is generally worth less than a comparable S&W . Assuming an easy to do FTF meeting with no shipping or transfer fees. As 2 Dogs says , you will know when you hold it.
Basic adj. sight 357 Dan Wesson about $450.00 to $500.00 Stainless is less common and a plus for me (but maybe not everyone )so add $100.00 Box and manual add $50.00 if you value such things . Factory barrel tool adds maybe $35 but more of a showpiece as most are kind of brittle by now and could break if twisted hard. Figure on buying a new ,upgraded one anyway. Puts it at about $650.00 give or take. I would subtract $50.00 for rubber or beat up grips. Palmer made gun will probably deduct $50 to $75 as they are not as highly regarded . Personally I've never seen much difference except some Palmer guns have non removable barrels. To me vents and underlugs do not add very much but they are important to some. Possible small plus there. Maybe +$35.00 I keep hearing that the prices on DWs are going up. I may be behind or it may be regional but I have not really seen it much around here on the basic .357. Now the 32 mags ,the large frame and specialty calibers yup , they are going up.

airborne,
I think needsmostuff has a good take on the accessories, but may have been way off on the stainless. I bought a blued DW 357 in that $500 range probably 6 years ago.
However, I believe you are referencing the DW 715 and those have been above $1,200 for several years. With the Plaque of the World and now the left upon us, the prices have risen dramatically. $2,000
You didn't specify whether you wanted the original DW or the new CZ DW. I think it's only the 715 CZ now produces. I bought an extra 8" barrel from CZ a couple of years ago that looks like excellent quality. $1500.
Now is a difficult time to be searching for a deal or even a good buy. I love my original 715; and I'm sure if you enjoy the 357 magnum, you will love yours as well.

A Palmer is generally worth less than a Monson but DW prices like you stated are all over the place. It seems like they either fetch ridiculous prices or they won't sell at all. I haven't really been paying attention to how gun prices have been trending higher though so this is all what I've seen in the past.
I would expect to pay $6-800 for a Palmer 715 six inch. All that being said when CZ took over the Dan Wesson name they came back out with the 715 and produced quite a few of these guns that retailed for over $1000. It makes the 715 as a whole less uncommon but when you do find an older one it probably makes it sell for more than it used to....if that makes any sense. It's the whole older is better. I'm not sure how well the new ones sold but it couldn't have been well since they recently discontinued it.
Depending on how much you want the gun and don't want your trade I would say trade value between $600-900. I paid $800 something for my CZ built 715.
Edit - Also I have 3 palmer guns and they are fine. Maybe they had a stigma when they were new but how many decades ago was that? The bad ones are probably weeded out by now

Thank yall. All opinions appreciated. The guy wants the pistols value in steel plate, 3/8ths to 1/8th inch thick.

I have a Dan Wesson Model 15 357 magnum with 6" vented heavy barrel that I purchased new in 1984. I still have the original box, owner's manual, and barrel gauge and wrench. I have been offered $700 for it on several occasions and refused. I think now it would be worth even more. I have no interest in selling as I have added a 8" vented barrel that I drilled and tapped for a scope.
