These are nice but with issues. Alan Hartman and I spoke about these a couple of days ago. He gets a bunch in that have issues. The internal parts were not hardened and wear out quickly.

Grover did not to the best job at hardening his internals. That is why every TLA I have bought has been sent directly to Alan for an internal hardness check and correction. That is the only issue I have found out of the ones I have owned. Just figure and extra $200 plus shipping on top of the purchase price unless the seller can produce proof that Alan, John Gallagher or David Clements etc already checked the internals. That is why I always send the paperwork from Alan along with the gun if I sell one. It saves the buyer that additional cost.

This pistol has not been touched. I purchased it 20 or more years ago at a gun show. The dealer told me that the original owner had purchased 2 of them, and Grover had sent them to him in a shoebox, each pistol in a red plastic sleeve. Several years later, I had an opportunity to buy the other one, an identical piece with consecutive serial #K304, but being the idiot that I often can be, I passed. No one has been further inside this pistol since its manufacture than me, when I removed the cylinder and grips to supply info to "Cubrock" for a book on TLA he was contemplating. So yes, the internals should probably be checked for hardness before firing. Jerry

Geez - I wasn't paying attention. I wish I'd bid on it, now.
Speaking of the "red plastic sleeve." I bought a TLA years ago that came in a red plastic Ruger box. The seller was the original owner and said it came to him in that box, with a simple printer label on it from Grover. People derided me from telling that story, saying it couldn't possibly be. Well, Grover got some of his castings from Ruger and knew some Ruger people personally. I would surmise he got some plastic boxes from someone at Ruger at some point and used them for his guns. Your story seems to support that theory.

If I am remembering correctly the story I was told, Grover was not only frugal (shipping guns in old shoeboxes) but also either ignorant of or disdainful of firearms shipping laws, as he sent the pistols directly to a non-FFL purchaser.
Cubrock, if I may ask, whatever happened with the TLA book you were gathering data for?

The 20% Internet Premium is what kept me away from following it too close, but even with that tacked on it went for less than expected. I'm sure you feel the same way.

Fantastic! Looking forward to the book.
Yes, I thought it would bring more but hope it's now in the hands of someone who will appreciate it and use it. Too pretty for me to shoot. I prefer playing with my older Colt SAA .38-40 and my .401 Herter's.
