Hear on the jungle drums Chuck Yeager has died, ripe old age of 97. Talk about remembering to breathe under pressure. Yeager did most of his shooting from the cockpit of a fighter, but showed his stuff on the ground with a .300 Weatherby as well. Heard as later years set in, he switched to 7mm Remington Mag. Reckon we ought to squeeze off a few revolver rounds to break the sound barrier in honor of a Great One. David Bradshaw

I hope it isn't true. I used to see General Yeager every year at the annual SCI Convention. He was the consummate gentleman, modest and unassuming. One year, my oldest daughter Julie asked him if he would sign her copy of The Right Stuff. He said "Of course", and asked her if she would like to have a picture taken. Naturally, she did, and I broke out my camera. The last time I saw him, we fondled some of Leupold's wares at their display. The most recent photos I saw of him showed he was in a wheel chair. What a brave hero, a warrior, a hunter, a gentleman.

God rest his soul and give him peace. I hate losing our heroes.

You know that man sure lived life to the fullest. Shame he is gone but to have lived that life and make it to 97 is pretty remarkable as well. God speed

I have never heard anything but good stuff about him. And it is sad that we lose the good ones like him. But as noted,, at 97,, he did live a very, very full life. May he RIP. A true American.

GOD speed, amen. I've a brother-n-law gone awhile now, that will show him around, after St Peter turns him loose. They may have known each other, he was a Blue Angel flight leader in his day.

Outstanding American. I met him at the Oshkosh airshow years ago - super humble and nice guy. His books are really good too.

A childhood hero of mine. Maybe the last of a generation.
