Congratulations, it’s a beautiful rifle. I have a Shiloh Sharps in 45-90 and couldn’t be more pleased with it. Shoot the 50-90 in a Browning 1885 BPCR and it sure thumps whatever it hits. It has a 1-26 barrel and use an LBT 700 grain FN-GC with 5744 at about 1450 fps. Extremely accurate and recoil is quite manageable.

Extremely accurate and recoil is quite manageable. You have my attention. I went whole hog for a number of years, BP and paper patching. Then things changed I guess and I just don't seem to have the time or the desire for all the extra steps. Because of that I probably haven't fired my .50-90 in 7-8 years. I need to find another option or sell it. Every time I think about selling it, I handle it and think "oh no I can't!" But it's been a divisive gun for me, so happy with it for a while, yet sort of regret buying it, I guess because I got it at the end of my BPCR phase and think about the many guns i sold to buy it. I shot it weekly for a year or so.... then nothing. The last time I fired it, I was going to shoot up some old loads. (700gr PP and 120grs of 1F). Much like when I found some of my old 500 Linebaugh hunting loads, I fired two or three and said "Holy crap, I used to enjoy this!?!?" I pulled the PP bullets by hand at the bench and fired off the 'banks". So the last time I shot it, I didn't even really shoot it. lol

As above, I went whole hog into it for a while, shot a match with mine, worked up all manner of good shooting loads, shot hell out of it and then, meh. Havent shot it over 5 years. But, I am going to hang onto it and I don't regret its purchase, its a thing of beauty. Mine is a C. Sharps 45-70 with 28" oct bbl.

Pewter forend cap? Love the wood grain on the stock. A Sharps has been on my short list for a while. What a fine rifle.

Well, what bullet will you use, what powder and charge (I won't even ask if you'll foul that bore with smokeless)? I seem to remember this ain't your first rodeo with a BPCR at all so you would have all of the necessary accouterments (just wanted to use that word today) to make your loads. I'm also curious on which wad material and thickness. I'm full of curiosity about that thing.
I've always enjoyed loading for my BPCR's as it's a process and pretty involved. I also see I was correct on the understated description "semi-fancy" grade of wood Shiloh used. They seem to always do that and who could complain?

I just cast a batch of bullets with a KAL adjustable mold. I set it at 1.485 inches and came out with 670 gr bullets. I just finished patching them, dang fingers are tired now. I am going to try 100 grs of Kik 3F to start (I have a crap load of it is the only reason). I have several different wads to try and lubes. I need to decide on which 1 F or 1.5F I want to use and order. I may be surprised by the Kik so who knows. I plan to load the rounds tomorrow and shoot on Wednesday. I have a Hartford style front sight coming from Stephen Borud so will save someone ammo to get it sighted in when it arrives. Should be a booming experience!

I bought 10 pounds of each 2F and 3F when KIK was getting good press. Nothing has ever shot as good as Swiss 1.5F for me. I've still got a few pounds of Cartridge hiding somewhere along with older GOEX 2F and 3F. Can't say KIK was worth the effort, but others had good luck. All of my Swiss is at least 7 years old so it's many lots back and is superb for my uses. My toys are 45/70 and 40/65 so I'm a small bore shooter in comparison to that 50.
I have looked at KAL molds many times and even have 3 of his handles, but never bought one of his molds. That monster you have is a chunk of lead for sure. Is that a cup base mold?
I never did play with lube wads as I am a target shooter with these things and wipe between shots. I understand your need for the lube wad and will be watching for your results. I seem to remember you posting on Shiloh too?
