Anyone use one of these for a 4" N or L frame S&W? If so, how do you like it?

I use one for my 5.5" Redhawk.
It's ok. I cut the thumbstrap off because the buckle banged against the snap too much when it was unsnapped. Since this was a hunting rig, the extra noise was unacceptable. I tightened the tension screw to compensate.
It's a well-made holster otherwise, but with only one belt loop, it doesn't really support the Redhawk as well as I'd like. I'm going to replace it with a Simply Rugged holster after I get the one I just ordered for my 696. Theirs is less expensive and will probably support the gun better.

I have one that I carry 3 different N frames in. I really like mine and have no complaints carrying the Smith & Wesson's in it. The heavier Ruger may be a problem but a 21, 24 & 27 works great.

I thought about the 120, but wanted to CCW the 696 from time to time and thought the SP would be a better overall choice. Hold off until I get mine and I'll post pics and such. Chris

The heavier Ruger may be a problem but a 21, 24 & 27 works great. True. Though I think it would have worked a bit better had the belt slot been a tight 1.5" vs 1.75. My belts are 1.5". Chris

Thanks for the info fellas, The Simply Rugged seems to be getting very popular & would like to try one someday. But thinking the strap and/or the tension screw on the galco might give some added vesatility for the two guns I plan to use, a Mountain gun & a 329pd. If I had a job it would be simple.. just buy both. Then, take the least favorite of the two and pitch it into that ever growing used part box. Everybody has one of those don't they?

They can add a thumb strap. The Mountain Gun and 329 should be close enough in size that it doesn't matter fit-wise. The Sourdough Pancake with removable thumbstrap (called a "hammer strap" by them) and shipping is going to be the same price as the DAO before shipping. Both can be strongside or crossdraw, but the SR SP has two belt loops to support the weight and can be ordered with straps to convert it to an IWB or "across the chest" holster. Chris

Thanks again Chris. I spoke with Rob yesterday(he's good poeple) & ordered a sourdough without a strap, which he said really wasn't needed. Now the wait.

Good call. Better quality than Galco, IMO, and Rob's a great guy to deal with.

If you're interested, here's a Simply Rugged sourdough pancake holster I use for a 4" 45 Colt Redhawk. It really makes carrying a heavy gun comfortable. I got the inside out straps too, not pictured. Really good people to deal with over there at Simply Rugged. I'd recommend them to anyone. I plan on buying at least 2 more holsters from them for 2 of my large SA revolvers.
