Last week my brother bought a 3.5" 500 S&W (no porting). We took it to the range on Saturday and shot a variety of ammo from Armscor, HSM and Hornady. It will certainly get your attention (and that of everyone else at the range). The Armscor and HSM 300 grain hp's were fairly mild at around 1,300 fps advertised velocity. We shot 300 grain HST's, 350 grain XTP-Mags and 500 grain JSP's from Hornady. There was nothing mild about any of those. I have to say, the 350 grain XTP's seemed to have the most violent recoil. Below are some pic's of my son shooting the 350's. The recoil is so snappy that you don't even see the vertical muzzle lift in the video without slow motion review. My forearm and wrist is a little stiff this morning!

Wow, that doesnt sound too fun. I shot a 4” version and it was quite uncomfortable. Impressive fireball though

I'm surprised the front sight didn't come out. I only see a single pin holding it in. My 460 ES has a double pin. Sorry for the crappy pic.

I finally got around to shooting my Trail Boss loads recently. They were exactly what I was looking for from my 500. Mine is the 5 inch John Ross edition. A 330 grain polymer coated cast bullet from Badman Bullets over a case full of Trail Boss (14 grains for this bullet) chronos at just a tick over 1000 fps and hits hard. It's also very pleasant to shoot in the big gun.

That 460 snub must be amazing in the muzzle blast category. To quote Clint, "A man has to know his limitations". I'll hold pat with my 480 Alaskan.

BamaGreg, do you have a weight for that 500 S&W ? Holster ? For comparison, the 480 Alaskan goes 42.5 oz..empty.
