Gentlemen,
I have a Ruger OM Flat-top 44 I am considering upgrading to an RW Bisley frame. I went to the website and they offer so many choices.
I'm thinking aluminum, but am not against brass except for shiny. The bisleys I have now are all factory and no possibility of trying any of them first since I live in ND. All my guns are working stuff in rough country so I lean towards matte finishes on all.
I am forced to shoot a lot with gloves so the bigger trigger guard will be a plus as well.
Suggestions? Thoughts?

Can always have it bead blasted for the matte finish, aluminum can be anodized or cerakoted. You're limited on options for hammer and trigger, until/unless Ronnie has them up and running for the OM's.

It takes a little bit of an artist's eye to get the main frame to Bisley transition right if you're starting with a plow handle model, but I've seen it done well.
I believe Ronnie has these for wide or narrow trigger and cut for Bisley or Standard (Super Blackhawk) hammers.
I love the look of brass, but a big consideration on brass vs aluminum for me is weight so keep that in mind.
Otherwise, a call to Ronnie will sort this out for you real easy. He knows this stuff inside and out and will get to the root of what you want, plus he's always entertaining to talk to!

My preference is for insulated deer skin, treated with a hot mixture of clear mineral oil & beeswax. Dry leather doesn’t last as long, soaks water, may slip in dry cold. Pigskin and goat makes a good glove if you can find it. Ask about the Bradshaw Bisley in aluminum. Also ask about his Butchered Bison, a.k.a. Bison Finger Groove (a work in progress). I’m currently shooting both, on-hand with stiff .45 Colt and .44 Mag, and have yet to have middle finger smacked by trigger guard. David Bradshaw

If you are not against brass and not worried about the shinny, since you are are working in rough country, let the brass patina begin, post a pic of this gun somewhere down the line.

Does one need to call Ronnie? I went to his website, but only see brass gripframes. Are aluminum listed, or are all the gripframes priced the same?
There are so many choices, I suppose taking Mr. Bradshaw's advice of sending outlines of the hand would be best... no chance to feel how the various gripframes fit in your hand.
I like the looks of brass but put more emphasis on weight reduction... currently, anyway.

Thanks to you all for the advice. I will get in touch with Ronnie.
I agree with Mr. Bradshaw on the glove material, but alas, technology has got me a little. I have a pair of safety gloves that are camo, padded in the palm, gore-tex, thinsulate lined, and tight in the fingers.
I hate to admit it but they beat any leather gloves I have ever owned.
I'm not sure they still make this particular pair as I bought them on sale a few years ago.
MCR Safety gloves if anyone is interested. I've goose hunted with them in -25 so highly recommended.

You’re tougher than me if you hunt in gloves @ 25-below ZERO. I don’t like that temperature in heavy mittens. Insulated gloves of oiled deerskin and wool outer garments stay quiet in cold which causes most synthetics to chafe a most unnatural sound. May not matter much in a stand, but on the track----might as well bang symbols. Some synthetics sport another feature I cannot abide: waterproof=stay wet on the inside. Your experience contrasts mine so I’d enjoy reading it detailed. Ronnie Wells is a big boy with huge hands, as are some of his buddies, which has thrust him to experiment with enlarged trigger guards. Should you contact Ronnie, be prepared to get specific and to listen. David Bradshaw

Once you click the aluminum drop the picture will even change. Hope that helps. R
