I watched that years ago. At this point anyone reading this please understand, I don't recommend running 460 Rowland Co. factory ammo in a converted Blackhawk. When I first did the Glock I bought a box of their ammo. It is HOT. Really hot. If you ask them they say it is 40,000PSI. I have loaded ammo using 40,000PSI data and ran it in the G21 that is set up for 40,000PSI. I was over 100fps under their factory ammo. Take it for what it is worth but I simply don't feel like there is enough of a safety margin in a rechambered Blackhawk cylinder. I spoke to Johnny Rowland and Clarks years ago about building a Blackhawk into a Rowland. Both of them said no problem. Run factory ammo. They do it everyday. I decided as long as it is their fingers and their guns let them have at it. I am getting my desired results with much less pressure and utilizing the 460 cases, there is no chance of one of the 30,000-32,000 loads ending up in a 1911.

I've got the 460 Rowland in a 1911 and Glock 21 Platform. But, might take a different path on a revolver. I do wonder what could be accomplished with a 5-Shot 45 ACP Revolver. Starline 45 +P and 45 Super Cases have the same strength as their Rowland Cases. Hmmm.... You could run the full 40,000PSI data without a problem.

Agreed when discussing use in an auto loader, but in a revolver it “could” be loaded to 1/16” longer OAL length than an ACP. Whether or not you could gain anything from that I don’t know. That particular volume of case isn’t directly related to any other I know, and trying to get “more” than the standard length .460 R would be iffy. At least for me. I’m sure Clark and Johnny R ruined a couple guns figuring out what they did as it is. Just my mental ruminations, worth 2 cents or less.

Remember it headspaces on the case mouth. The throats in this cylinder are .4515" so there are a few bullets that do allow seating them out a bit. Truthfully I haven't seen any real advantage to doing so. Since I am not loading maximum loads in this gun the extra space in the case which is miniscule at best, doesn't add to or take away from velocity or accuracy. The gun as is, is one of the most accurate revolvers I have ever seen. When I can see it shoots under an inch at a lasered 30 yards. So seating it out which just puts the bullet closer to the long throat wont gain anything.

Agreed...
Cylinder that can handle 40k with a considerable safety margin.
Throats .452" so bullets can be seated out without blow by.
With the small powder capacity and efficient powder burn, a 4 5/8" barrel would be plenty.

Encore I 200% agree. You got what you were after in efficiency and accuracy. I think it was a very cool project, and you answered the questions of “can’t we make a more efficient cartridge for shorter barrel use”.
All that plus great accuracy is all one could hope for. Do you feel there are inherent accuracy benefits to this round, or it has all come about due to the quality of materials and execution in the conversion process?

That's the thing about these type of threads. Everybody brainstorms and points out what can be improved on.
I made a decision not to involve myself in the Handgun Blueprint Thread. To each their own, but I'm a performance junky and won't spend money on cosmetics. It puzzles me when the conversation points out CCH Colors, etc with no regard for throat size, forcing cone trasition, timing, alignment and such.
Reflex264 has provided great real life information. Even such minor details of .4515" throats not being quite big enough to seat bullets out. It's just not something we think about until it's pointed out.
