I tell you my brothers it's not just the government and electronic media watching every move . Sometimes its closer to home. Once upon a time I was upgrading a old WWII S&W Victory . It was missing the lanyard ring and I was searching the Interweb for a replacement. Having little luck I tried every name attached to it. The next morning there were some arched eye , pointed questions as to why there were late night searches for BUTT SWIVELS on the search history . My O MY , they DO expect the worst from us do they not.

I read a story several years ago about Target. Guy was frustrated that they started sending maternity supply advertisements to his teenage daughter. He called the local store to complain. They apologized and said she must have gotten on the list by accident. Couple months later, she started showing and told him she was pregnant. Target had tracked her change in vitamin purchases and other stuff with her credit card to determine she was likely pregnant and then started sending advertisements based upon that. If people knew what their data is worth, they certainly wouldn't be giving it away. Collectively, you can't imagine the insights that one can get from the data. We were getting a data set from a creator of free mobile video games (again really a data collection business) that had such amazing data that you could accurately forecast income, race, household size, etc down to a granularity of a block. On the bright side, you could effectively mobilize services that positively impact those communities. On the downside, you could gerrymander districts like never seen before. In fact, because of that negative insight, the new generation of neural networks (a special type of layered algorithm that spits out a prediction, etc) are what is known as "explainable" neural networks. Unlike the previous, data in and answer out black boxes with zero transparency, the "explainable" neural networks give a road map of the decision. The result is two fold, (1) it inspires confidence in the prediction and (2) it prevents things like ai "redlining" where credit worthiness might be impacted by race, residence location, etc and not based upon the financial information. ps. as for the pregnant teen, they could have also been click tracking or any number of different ways of tracking what people are looking for.

Per RW’s post, I signed up for Social Security on the internet several years ago simply because I didn’t want to go sit in their office for two hours waiting. I immediately began to get all kinds of emails geared toward seniors. From reverse mortgages to viagra, I got it all. So, old Uncle Sam sells your info too. It’s impossible to escape cyber scrutiny in today’s world. BTW Ronnie, I did laugh out loud at the “drag queen” reference. :-) It wasn't the government selling it. It was the search engine or any other myriad of data collection points on your way to the .gov

And speaking of Money made on FB Advertisements. Just saw a young man named zucker something worth 100 BILLION, Whooooo. Do you have any idea how many single actions that would buy, Hahaha. wow!And to be quite frank, people don't understand how much money a million dollars is let alone a billion, If I put $1 million in your bank account and you spent $1000/day, it would take you 3 years to spend it all. If I put $1 billion in your bank account and you spent the same $1,000/ day, it would never run out. In fact, your wealth would grow by 40 million the first year and more each year after that. If you wanted to spend 1 billion is 3 years, you would have to spend 1 million PER DAY. If Zuck had his $100 billion in the bank, he could spend over $10 MILLION PER DAY and never run out of money.

All he's gotta do is hire a politician to help him spend for 20 minutes or so, it will all be gone.

They would spend 50 billion of it in an earmarked bill to save the spotted ninja leopard newt from el nino that was created on an asteroid from venus huh! What ever it would be spent on , it would sure be ridiculous! But elgriego is right man. you have to get your head right to even imagine how much money a Hundred Billion dollars is. It is absolutely phenominal.

I walked into the Maintenance office one morning just as the girl who processed resupply orders found a request from the night-shift electrician for "butt spices". That really made her day.

It is absolutely phenominal. I was at an event a while back and the crowd was electric at the news that someone donated $50M. Don't get me wrong, it was generous and that money will have a tremendous impact. The couple that wrote the check have a net worth of $10B. It was the equivalent of someone with a $1M net worth writing a check for $5000.
