If it is a 25 it is blued steel. 100% correct. Have had one since new. Still want a stainless 625 in .45 Colt. My 25-13 has a fantastic single action trigger on it. Ultra-crisp and 4-4.5 lbs. DA trigger is okay. Wonderful carry gun when you need a significant amount of power in a manageable package.

I thought I knew smiths but a blue or black stainless is new to me. Think if stainless it wold have been a 625. Smith put a 6 in front of the blue model numbers. Here is two smiths I own, a 25-5 (45 colt) on top and a 24-3 (44 special) on bottom. i.postimg.cc/HsXtMnjB/top-S-W-25-5-bottom-S-W-24-3.jpg

"Smith put a 6 in front of the blue model numbers.” bogus bill
*****
S&W introduced stainless with “6” as the lead number designating model. Thus, a stainless Model 29 becomes a Model 629, etc.
Sturm, Ruger used “K” to lead model designation for stainless. Thus, the stainless bull barrel silhouette model Super Blackhawk was KS411N. Whereas, the blued variant is an S411N. A government model Mini 14 in blue is an AC 556; in stainless a KAC 556.
When “K” is added to the end of a model designation, “K” stands for Kurtz, German for Short. The 13” barrel variant in blue becomes an AC 556K, etc. A stainless Mini 14 (AC 556) with 13” barrel becomes KAC556K. David Bradshaw

Thanks for weighing in on this DB. Would you agree then that a model 25 Mountain gun is blued carbon steel,, or is it SS as asserted on page one? Thanks

Not stainless. S&W introduced stainless with a J-frame. In stainless, the Model 36 Chief’s Special became the Model 60. I believe that was the start of S&W using “6" to designate stainless.
