Hello:
I know some have used the small red dot sights in place of a rear sight on magnum revolvers. I was hoping that some on this site may offer some input. I did some internet searches and it seems that the Leupold Delta Point, Burris Fastfire 3 and Trijicon are the best bets.
Anyone have experience with the microdot sights on a hard kicking revolver? Thanks

I've never run my 480 SRH full tilt, but my Burris FF3 does a pretty good job with 370-395 grain bullets at 800-1100 fps. No signs of loosening up so far.

I have a Trijicon RMR 1MOA and absolutely love it. Rock solid and the 1MOA is awesome for hunting. It's mounted on a 460 and zero issues. Another I own and really like is the Vortex Venom 3MOA. Bigger dot but equally reliable so far.

If I could piggy-back on this information request ? Please add any base recommendations with thoughts on ease of install , height and sturdiness . Thanks , Of course , love the closeup pics of the set up. Seems like a lot of asks but I'm looking at doing a couple of guns ,,,,, and my tired brain is swimming.

I tend to like the UltraDot's on many guns. I had a Burris FF II on a 454 that just quit. Burris fixed it of course,, but still don't know WHY it quit. So far,, no UltraDot has given me any issues.

Ultradots are bomb proof. Great dot sights. I personally prefer the smaller reflex style, but you absolutely can't go wrong with these either.

Though I don't have any red dots on DA revolvers, I do have one on 4 different BH's. Trijicon, Burris, and Vortex. All good so far. The Trijicon on my 4 5/8" SBH has been shown no mercy and could care less. Really, to-date I haven't had any issues from 357, 44 Magnum, and heavy 45 Colt loads.
For my eyes a tube type (Ultra Dot) is easier to pick up the dot than the tiny reflex optics.

I've had good luck with the Vortex products where compactness mattered. I run the large Aimpoint 9000SC on my paper punchers. Had a Trijicon and was impressed but after they sold me 2 machine screws for $20 and then charged me $10 to ship them I'll NEVER have another Trijicon product in my house.

Fastfire3 held up fine on glock g40 but I'm a lil hesitant to put one on my 500 jrh even though I'm not shooting full power loads so may take Trijicon off 357 and go that route just ain't a fan of the tube type red dots

Appreciate candid reporting of first responders here, enabling shooters to consider experiences from the Firing Line. Manufacturers need to read this stuff. David Bradshaw
