Nice rifles all. All I have in the BPCR area now is a Springfield Trapdoor made in 1880. I've had fun with it though.

Yesterday I traded for a 45-70. It looks most like the pics of teh dixie / pedersoli sharps. the barrel is round; the sights which do slide on two rails, are not on the tang, but on the barrel. It appears hard to see but there is a stamp on the barrel indicating it was imported by stoeger, and Made in Italy. Set triggers are pretty nice, my first time to operate those. I am not new to teh cartridge but am new to the vernier type sights and the set triggers. The front sight is the same as the ballard depicted above the dixie sharps 45 70.. My favorite smokeless rifle is a ruger #1 270 with the schnabel forestock similar to this gun's front stock. I am going to have several questions from black powder loadings to cast bullet sources and reccomendations, and I am curious as to the limitations of the placement and shorter height of the sight being it is one third the hieght of a tang mounted sight, is farther from the eye, and since the front sight is the blade instead of the front with inserts and crosshairs, peeps etc. I hope this is a good place to find out about this all.... including some smokeless loads that may approximate black powder as well like maybe lil gun ? something else ? I hate to say it but I have wanted one of these guns for a long time and can see my self playing some with this one if it has the possiblities to properly mount the other sight etc. on it.. I want to amuse my self and amaze the other hunters when I score at a very respectable distance with this gun and iron sights.. they are already interested in what I do cause I hunt with pistols a bit. dan kennison
