Put 'em in a full sized Blackhawk and chrono them!
Way cool though.

If I can find them I think I have part of a box of Winchester .357 Magnum that are marked armor piercing. The bullet looks like the one in the Super Vel.

Shot em as a young cop in the 70s found out they were made for N frames not K frames. Double atomic. Fireball looked like you were 30,000 ft over Nagasaki!

The not that old, oldies here are Triton Quik-Shok 44 spec, 165gr HP. Likely Sierra bullets ? Some paper hulled 16ga ammo.

Our Saturday breakfast is turning into a show and tell, with me and one other fella being the antagonists. Chuck is old, he'll tell you that. He brought this in last Saturday. He says they called them block busters. Anyone have any or ever shot any?
***** I would not shoot these in a Model 19 or M-66. On the bright side, they may have collector value. It was, at one time, common among state police to carry penetrating ammo. I was blue-lighted by a trooper years ago. Asked me to check out his M-19, as he was headed for qualification. We pulled down the road a bit, spotted a pile of crushed stone. Hands me his revolver. At about 20 yards I squeeze on a stone. Happened to have a Smith & Wesson screwdriver in left breast pocket. Two clicks windage, as I recall. Do not recall an elevation adjustment. Sent the stone wizzing. The trooper had issue Winchester conical FMJ. David Bradshaw

The WW and Rem-Umc both had 158gr pointed metal capped. IDK about the Super-Vel............

That reminds me..believe Fiochii has a 9mm loading. Think they may have taken away something, learned something from that Super Vel loading. They have a very small meplat, not truly a point, 9mm load. Had a couple boxes here. Think they are loaded warm, don't recall if labeled +p. Don't think any left here to double check. I do wonder what powder was used in the Super Vel loads ?

Looks like the Winchester bullet (158 grains) called metall piercing. Thats the ammo used to kill our primeminister O Palme in the 80:s. (Or so the said) At that time we had that ammo, nothing spectacular there, a 9mm luger from the armed forces had a lot more penetration,( steel jacket in those)

When I saw Squawberryman’s post with a picture of a Super Vel box, I expected one of the more “senior” forum members to offer up a name familiar to many on this site – one very apropos to this thread. But since that hasn't happened, I'll take the opportunity and drop it now:
curmudgeon
When I fell into the abyss of the handgunning hobby in the late 70’s, one of my first reads was Maj. George Nonte's 1978 book titled "Handloading for Handgunners". In it, there was a picture of Lee Jurras standing over a pronghorn, holding an Automag pistol. Soon after, I found the 1975 Nonte/Jurras book, "Handgun Hunting", in which Jurras contributed much to the discussions of field testing high performance ammo. He was the founder of the Super Vel company, and he was also a strong proponent of the Auto Mag pistol.
I never met Lee Jurras . He’s been gone awhile now, but in my mind’s eye, his picture is next to the term “handgun hunter” in every gunner’s dictionary.

I remember black and white pictures on L Jurras and Nonte with sunshades from both handgunhunting and Ihmsa articles. Big promoters for handguns and hunting! Isnt a cartridge in 475 designed by L Jurras?
