I am new to this site and this is my first post. I posted this on another forum and it was suggested that, I post on this forum. I am 50 years old and want to buy once and cry once but I already messed that up.. So, please help. I am trying to get the most accurate revolver. The choice is between freedom arms m83 or the BFR. The caliber is 454 casull, why this round? I like it and have reloading dies, brass and bullets for said round. I do not want to take the lost of changing to another. Now without getting into a long store about my revolver that I had that was over-bored from the factory and was designed that way to keep the pressures down, (per three well known revolver smiths) that I spoke with. I am only interested in the two stated revolvers. The barrel length will be 6". I will be reloading jacketed bullets and cast. I am looking for real world accuracy test that you all have done with the above revolvers. I am not looking for the prettiest gun. This gun is for hunting and target shooting. I want to shoot it out past 200 yards. I have rifles but I want to do it with a revolver. I know about the safety and 4 rounds issue with the FA. If I cannot do it in 4 round the fifth is not going to save me. The FA is more money but how much accuracy am I getting for that price

I would bet if you tested 10 FAs and 10 BFRs in a ransom rest the differences between both models would not be enough to worry about. The shooters ability would be a more important factor.[/quote]
AMEN TO THIS! THE MOST ACCURATE SINGLE ACTION I HAVE EVER HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH IS THE FA 83 .41 MAGNUM. MINE IS CAPABLE (I USED TO BE) OF GROUPS WELL UNDER ONE-INCH AT 100 YARDS.

Both shoot better than I can on most days. I can't pick one.

MY MOST USED HUNTING SIXGUN IS THE M83 .44 MAGNUM. 25 SHOTS = 24 WHITETAILS AND ONE COUGAR.

The biggest difference between the two is not accuracy, but weight and grip design, the latter of which is somewhat a non-issue as Ronnie Wells has stated plans for offering Bisley variations for the FA frame. I find my BFR rather cumbersome (7.5-inch 475L). I feel, as others have previously stated, that 3lbs is about tops for comfortable hip carry. For hunting the BFR is either in my hand or riding in my ruck.

If looks are important to the OP...…………….the new Bisley BFR is ugly. Yea, I know, the Bisley is good for the big rounds. But BFR's example is just ugly. And I own two (480 and 500JRH)

Like I said on the other site, I will put BFR’s accuracy against any other production revolver. They’re really good revolvers. Yeah, they’re a bit heavier, but when recoil climbs, weight is your friend. Also, they are available in a really larger variety of calibers and the new Magnum Research iteration of the Bisley grip frame is great for controlling big recoil.

Both are accurate guns. The BFR probably will be really accurate. The FA definitely will be really accurate.

I do not have any real experience with the BFR in 454. But I do own a FA M83 in 454,, and it can shoot better than I can. If you plan on "buying once & crying once" why not go with the best you can afford?
Can you find anybody near you that has one or the other to let you test fire them? That way,, YOU can decide which one you'd prefer.

I don't have a BFR. A friend of mine just ordered a 500 Linebaugh Bisley BFR so I will get to shoot it in a few months. It would be hard for me to believe anything could shoot as good as a Freedom Arms but I guess it's possible.

I have not been able to locate anyone in my area,(Columbus, Ohio). I have called a dozen ranges and ask friends and family and nothing.

I have owned a lot of FA over the years. I’ve never seen one that did shoot exceptionally well personally.
