I picked up a 5 1/2" heavy barrel 41 this afternoon at the gun show and man it's clean. Haven't got any pictures yet.(They will follow) How many 41's do we have around here and what kind of ammo does your like. Bill

Bill,
I've had a 7" model since around 1990. It seems to like Federal stuff best.
Congrats on your find.

I have a 7" one I bought when I lived in Midland TX 12 years ago. What a fine gun it is.

I have one with two barrels. One is short, the other is long. Both have red dots on them. Shoots extremely accurately!

I've had a 7" for about 2 months now. Really impressed that it funtions 100% with everything I've tried so far. Federal 900b has been the most accurate but it's no longer made so... Wolf match target & Aguila standard vel. both have shown good potential.

Not bad for a S&W... Been issued a few. Owned a few... All very ammo tolerant. Current favorite is a 1st generation with the cocked indicator... Owned it almost 30 years... Wears a 5.5 bull with Burris scope mostly... You need extra barrels. I have a 7 inch with a Bomar sight, a 7 inch with a full length Bomar rib, and a 7 3/8 with the original cutts compensator in the safe... Back in the day it was common knowledge that the old barrels out shot the new ones... My issue guns were tested and would shoot perfect scores from a ramsom rest.. I was the limiting factor

I have a model 41 that I bought 30 years ago and it is a fantastic gun. Mine is the 5 1/2" and it shoots the Remington Golden bullets very well, it does not seem to feed the soft lead tips without malfunctions. ;D

Some bullseye shooters want their M41 to feel as much like their 1911 as possible. Herrett makes what they call a "Trainer" grip... Comes in arched and flat mainspring housing configuration..

Right now, I only have one model 41. This particular one is pretty finicky about the ammo it will digest but is quite accurate and has a very nice trigger. I have owned and used several other 41s over the years and most have been accurate and reliable with most any ammo but some of the triggers have been not-quite-as-good as others.
I also have a model 46 ("economy" model of the 41) bought new in the early '60s. This thing is only average as far as accuracy but has a fantastic trigger and is absolutely reliable. It has fired more rounds, shot more targets, been carried more miles and killed more game than ANY other handgun I have ever owned, including some game that really should not have been tackled with a .22.
Biggest trouble with the 41 is that they get kind of boring to shoot ...too damn easy to hit with.

I have a 41 with a 5" and also a 7 1/2 " barrel. They both shoot better than I ever will. Currently using Federal Lightnings. I would like to find a couple more cases of that stuff, but, I don't think they are making it anymore.

I finally got pictures of it today and tracked down the serial number to late 1979. Bill

Have you figured out the DIY trigger adjustment? Take the barrel off the frame and look in the frame just above the trigger... You will see a little slide bar with notches in it. You take a pin punch and tap the pin in the notch back just enough to let you slide the bar one way or the other... ;D
