Many of you are familiar with this gun, it's in my avatar pic, but it deserves another look now. John Gallagher built it for me a few years ago. 50th Ann. 44mag Flat top, Bisleyized, 500L. John had made some Dall Sheep grips for me from some rough horn I had picked up on a Sheep Hunt. He barely got some slabs from that sad hunk of horn for the grips. Well, I couldn't leave well enough alone so I sent the gun and some horns from a Dall Sheep that I killed in the Brooks Range here in AK to Rob Rowen and he worked his magic. A couple other guys here have some grips from that same ram I killed and packed out 15 miles! I shot the heck out of the gun, killed a moose with it, and wanted a couple things done to it so I contacted John and sent it to him. Well, we all know that John then entered into the fight of his life, Lord Rest his Soul, and the work was delayed for obvious reasons. He had gotten a start on it and was working on it right up until he took that last turn for the worse. I had spoken with him just before he passed. His son Isaac then contacted me and told me that they had sent the gun to Hamilton Bowen, a friend of the family, to finish it up. I am very thankful to John, Isaac and Hamilton for this. I just got it back yesterday. Here is a Gallagher, Bowen, Rowen 500L. To say it is special to me is quite an understatement. It will see the inside of the Rybka Tomahawk again, get packed around here in AK and hopefully draw more blood.

That gun is a magnificent beast for sure. I have often thought a Flat topped 500L octagon would make for a dandy big bore, I’d do it with a round butt and a 4” barrel but that’s just me.
But the Alaskan moose kill takes that gun over the top for me. Too cool.
What additional work was done this to around?

That is about perfect for a big bore. I'd be proud to tote that as the last hunting revolver I'd ever own. Thank you for sharing it with us!

I was getting double dimples in the primer shooting heavy loads and the gun had loosened up some. I had shot it a bunch and wanted him to go through it a give it a good once over. The loading gate trough was thin where is was opened up and needed some touch up welding and I also wanted Johns Makers Mark on the top strap. I think he's still scratching his head wondering how it got out of his shop the first time without it I had also considered getting it cerakoted but John suggested a high polish blue instead of the mat finish we did the first time. He said it will stand up to holster wear a little better.
