My stainless was an excellent shooter and grouped quite well. The gripper grips and porting also made it easy to shoot; unfortunately, it was unreliable in DA. Perhaps thay have since fixed this issue, but I had the same problem with 2 different trackers, a 44 mag and a 45 acp. When I tried to get the ACP version addressed, customer service got surly and I got rid of all 5 of my Taurus handguns.

I had one for a year or so. It was pretty accurate, easy to shoot, the bore showed some chatter marks. I fire lapped it & it smoothed right out. The fit & finish was pretty good. Overall I liked it. What I didn't like was the porting. It gave a pretty good muzzle flash near dusk. I also didn't like the rubber stocks. I think Taurus called them ribber. Rubber doesn't conceal well for me it grabs clothing & tends to cause shirts, vests, & jackets to ride up exposing the gun. I was going to change them out, but never did find a set I liked. The gun was a dream to carry & with the lighter .44 mag loads or heavy .44 Special loads it was a good CCW gun. If it'd had different stocks from the factory, preferably wood, I probably would still have it. I did like the gun, but found I just wasn't carrying it too much. I sold it to finance a traditional bow. Hope this helps some, I wouldn't be afraid to buy one, I think they are a good value. Frank PS: Mine was reliable DA & easy to shoot DA. FV

In every way they're in between a Charter and a Smith. Price, quality, asthetics, you name it. I do recommend them for the money though. Even more so since Model 696 SWs are so expensive.

I've owned a couple of Taurus revolvers in the last 25 years. One of them worked fine for the entire short time that I owned it - it was a .41 Mag snub five-shot in Ti. The finish was not very nice, however. The other was wonderfully finished, but developed a light-strike DA problem in under a thousand rounds.
If I had all the time in the world and patience in the world, I guess I'd feel like it would be a good risk. I mean, that little five-shot .44 Mag snub that I keep seeing in the gun store looks like it would be a great .44 Spl carry gun. But I just always read these replies that start out, "I love my Taurus but . . . ."

I just can't warm up to them. I think I have given them a fair shake and do not begrudge anyone who has taken the plunge...If you have other options that you can afford, then I'd steer that direction.
