I have an OM Single Six. I was just thinking how I have not seen the front sight this one has on any other Ruger Revolvers. I'm not thinking I have anything special, just wondering what the back story, if there is one, on this sight. I can take another closer picture tonight if it helps. Thanks for any and all info!

No info to impart on the front sight, other than my single six had the same sight (2 dogs front sight now). My super single six was made in 1965. Off topic, but that hammer is nice! Who did that?

Same sight as found on the Mk. bull barrel Target revolvers. Some were briefly put on guns at the factory, but most were added by their owners later, as I did with 3 of mine. The Mk. I and II versions were more sharply undercut. The picture is not distinct enough for me to tell on my I Pad,but yours appears to me to be from a Mk. III, which is more a verticle patridge pattern, rather than sharply undercut. In any event, these sights offer a more distinct sight picture than the OEM ramp front sights.
Aeroscout, that looks like a SBH hammer.

Aeroscout, that looks like a SBH hammer. Indeed Sir! Shortened and thinned possibly? Looks good.

It is a SBH hammer....sort of. I had a SBH hammer and a local gunsmith cut the thumb spur off of it and welded it to the single six hammer.
All of my Rugers have been changed to the SBH style hammer. I likt the look and feel of much more than the standard hammer or the bisley hammer.
So the front sight was put on some Single Sixes but wasn't a common practice at the factory?
I'll try to get a better picture of it tonight, and thanks for the info.

SAME STYLE SIGHT CAME ON TWO OF SUPER SINGLE-SIXES FROM THE 1960s. BOUGHT USED.

Those old models were SC 4, SC5 & SC 6’s with the undercut sight.
