Sambar stag is available from New Zealand and the Philippines from domestic herds, and why this has not been exported is a puzzle to me. It is found used in knife handles. Bob Wright I wonder why one of the game ranches hasn't started bringing in any to start herds here? Seems like a nice secondary business could be had?

These are elk grips. I got these from Eagle Grips many years ago when they first started using elk. They have not warped or changed any in size at all. They look darker than any of the other elk pictured in this thread because I dyed them a little darker with coffee. I just used a small sauce pan with water and about three heaping tablespoons of coffee grounds in it and boiled it. I let it cool way down so it was just warm and submerged the panels in it. I took them out every once in a while to see how dark they were getting. I believe they soaked for around ten minutes. I then took them out and wiped them dry and submerged then into table salt for a couple hours. The salt dried them pretty well. I like them better now that they are darker. I may even go through the process again to make them even darker.

With all the info provided I believe the grips probably never fit well. So the plan at this time is to shoot and use them as is till fall/ winter. At that time I want a freespin pawl installed and will have the grips fit. This revolver I was sold as one of Gallagher,s ( am waiting for paperwork to prove or disprove). My understanding that John,s son is possibly going to take over the shop. If he does I thinking of ask him to do this project. If not him see if Zane will fit them. The gripframe is CCH so repair of scratches will be a pain.

Fitting grips to a frame does not require scratching it.
