A while Back i bought a retro style colt series 70.
It was a very good gun and exactly what i thought i wanted. Till i got to the range.
There was nothing Wrong with the Colt at all. It shot great , But By the 3rd magazine my right had was bleeding pretty good. The hammer bite does not hurt so much, but if i was going to keep this gun, something would need changing.
But i did not want to change it. I wanted retro and i got it. But it would be stupid to think i was going to really enjoy shooting a gun that was turning my right and into ground grampa !. So i took a loss and traded it in on series 70 competition model.
Not very retro but a real good gun. I have put about 400 rounds through it , and it is one of my favorites.
A couple weeks back i noticed an add someplace for a night hawk custom , Colt Classic.
It,s more money than i want to spend , on a 1911 , but cooler than hell. They put a modified beavertail grip safety and slightly bobbed hammer on it , and a great looking set of double diamond grips, A gold bead front sight, and an improved rear sight that is not to far removed from the old ones cosmeticly. And of course Changed out a bunch of internals , witch probably make sing beautifully, But the finish is sort of aged looking so while the gun is new it looks old ! I love it !
The Dan Wesson A-2 is similar, but not as cool, but less than half the cost.
I hope Springfield Armoury Colt Or somebody else comes up with something like this. At around a grand. The Hammer and Grip safety are just changed enough from the original A-1 style to keep me from bleeding to death but you need to look at it to notice, and the aged bluing sets it off wonderfully.
A guy name Bill nash has been doing this with Guitars for years, it,s kind of cool. He builds Fender copies and ages them to whatever degree you want. now there are lots of people doing it with guitars. I hope somebody does it with 1911s ! ...tj
