England is going to 100% non-lead shot shell pellets. That will probably result in more fine, older SXS shotguns coming to market. Currently 12 gauges sidekicks are going for $5,000-$10,000 less in the UK than here. Too many people bought them here at high prices and used asking prices are nuts-comparably. If you could, you could fly to London, buy a Purdey or H&H and save enough compared to US prices to pay your travel expenses, plus several $000"s.
There are several reputable dealers in fine shotguns over there in addition to the manufactures who also sell previously owed guns-although you MUST do your due diligence. I was close to buying a Purdey and I called the Purdey gunroom. They looked the gun up in their ledger and told me the gun started life with 29" barrels. The one for sale had 27"barrels! There was a time when shorter barrels were in vogue and many had their barrels cut down and then jug choked. The one angle I didn't think to get a good photo of was of the barrels clearly showing the muzzle..Shame on me! I did not buy it.The British are far more acceptable of modifications that would doom a gun in the US market.
Never-the-less, there will be some great deals to be had in the months to come. Of course, if you can afford a Purdey, you can most likely afford non-toxic shot. You need to know what you are looking at-the same as with any other fine firearm
The SXS I very recently purchased is stuck in the UK. My importer is used to having them flown on passenger planes to Denver. So, I am waiting.
