Convinced a boss hen to come check out my set up this morning. This ol boy was putting on a show following a group of 3 hens. Watched him strut, gobble and drum to within 40 steps. A load of Apex TSS Hometown Blend from my Benelli M2 20 gauge sealed the deal. Osceola sub-species, 17 -18 poinds, 9 inch beard, 1 5/8 spurs.

Great job!!! A friend of mine has been after the North American Slam. The Osceola is the last one he needs.

Nice one for sure!
Like many others,, our season hasn't started yet. But I'm seeing strutting Toms all over. Just yesterday,,, 3 different places,, & the Toms were at it hard! I was having to service some traps after my shooting match,, and it helped pass the time,, seeing them strut!

They are a beautiful, magnificent, bird in full strut. With the sun shining on them, and there iridescent colors aglow. Mother Nature at her finest.

Roll it in Kentucky Colonel seasoned flour and brown then potato's, green beans and biscuits. HHMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife also lightly browns it and then makes a light gravy in the pan and simmers it covered to finish, then poured over seasoned rice, with potato's and biscuits.

I watched two huge Toms put on a show for 4 hens and a jake yesterday. Such a pretty sight we just sat in the truck and watched. And they no more cared about that running one ton diesel than a man in the moon. I finally had to beep the horn to get them to move off the road so I could get by.

Nice one. The turkeys around here, north central Idaho, are like rats. They are everywhere because they taste so nasty nothing wants to eat them. This morning I heard a couple gobblers in the front yard about 20 yards from my porch. I looked out the window and saw about a dozen hens grazing. I have an old 50 gallon barrel with a faded pink color laying on it's side. Two Tom's were all puffed up and gobbling, challenging the barrel to a fight. They did that for about 10 minutes until they realized the hens musta thought they were idiots and wandered up the hill without them. One of the Tom's was impressive, dragging his beard on the ground. I could have shot him in the eye with a .22 but I didn't have enough gravy on hand to choke him down.

WARDOG filet the breast off a fat tom, cut it into nuggets cutting across the grain. Season flour and fry the nuggets, use the drippings to make the best gravy you could ask for. See my pictures above. Be generous with the black pepper, garlic salt, or just use Cajun seasoning. Mighty fine dining.
