Heck no talent here. I'm just brave or stupid enough to jump in with both feet. I silver soldered the front sight on probably eight times, it was my first try. The next time I will make a jig to hold the sight. The barrel and cylinder I just filed till the letters and marks were gone, sandpaper till the file marks were gone and scotch bright to dull and even the finish. Most of the rest was bolt on/swap out parts.

I did the same with my Acc Sport in 45 Colt I got it used and it already had a Clements custom sight. I like it with all the billboard and cylinder markings.. Nice thing about stainless is you do not have to reblue

I like it, how exactly did you go about removing the wording?

Nobearsyet, take a look in the gallery section for the home made custom thread. In there, Boxhead posted a picture of the simple jig he designed to chuck up the cylinder in a drill press so you can spin it and apply first a file, then progressively finer grades of sand paper to remove the "engraving and wording" on the cylinder. The warning label is pretty easy as well. Simply start with a file and lightly work it the length of the lettering, moving it around the barrel slightly each time. Once again, progress up through different grits of paper until all your file, sand marks are gone and the grain matches the rest of the barrel. Like Texas said, it isn't tough, you just got to jump in and try. I'd go on GB or post here for a cheap take off barrel for $20-$25 and start on that until you get comfortable.

nobearsyet I am sorry to here about your job. That happened to me nine years ago. I know how you feel. It hurts, alot. I didn't realize how bad it would hurt, until I walked out that door for the last time. Well one thing made me feel better. One year after the Mexican plant opened, they closed it because they couldn't meet quality or quontity. They tryed to bring the equipment back into the US and the Mexican government wouldn't let them bring it back across the border. Bill
