Does anyone still use wool hunting clothes? I have a pair of wool bib overalls that i love. I also have a LL Bean Maine Guide parka in the red plaid but have been thinking lately that i want a camo wool jacket. I love how quiet and warm wool is. I was at Bass Pro last night. They have a Cabelas Outfitter Series jacket in a material called “Wooltimate”, which I am guessing is a wool blend (isn’t most wool nowadays?). I was sold on that jacket but alas they didn’t have my size. So now I am thinking about buying another of the LL Bean in camo.
Who else uses wool? What do you like?

That Cabelas stuff used to use Pendleton wool. What I have is 20 years old.
Browning has had some pretty nice wool too lately.
If you want to spend the money Sleeping Indian or King of the Mountain are the best.
I have and use them all.
That LL Bean wool looks closest to one color I have from Cabelas and works very well where I am. If I were going to buy more I'd check it out closely. They have lots of online coupon specials too...

I love my red plaid coat. But since i hunt brush pile ground blinds i figure i should probably step up to a camo of some sort. Ha

Looks green and black to the deer...they're colorblind....right?
That's why the old timers used the red/black combination.

I'm a big fan of wool, and Polypropylene long johns. Wool is heavier than the synthetics, but keeps you warm, dry and quiet.

I wear wool when hunting and working outside. I have a favorite Pendleton jacket from when I was in the Forest Service and a bunch of LL Bean gear including pants, bibs, and a heavy Mackinac coat. No experience with the new stuff but I am interested in the jackets with a windstop liner as long as it is quiet.
I've been through the ice twice, once when I got turned around in a blizzard and went through a little cattle pond and once to fish out a friend. Rather doubt I would have survived the first experience if had been wearing something other than wool.

That is why I have always worn just earthy plaids when hunting. But I wonder if the straight lines of the plaid are spotted easier than the irregular patterns of the camo? I have had deer really close to me with my everyday clothes on. As long as I’ve sat still I was undetected.

I sure miss the various kinds of military issue wool trousers. Very little left. Repro's are double the money and right on the heels of our current name brands. Google around though. Climbers used to bring home togues and sweaters from the Andes regions. A friend brought home a very heavy anorak type sweater from New Zealand. What I'm saying is, search the known regions where they raise sheep and have bad, cold, weather.

It’s a Browning, I don’t know who made it for them. I doubt that Browning actually was the maker of it. I love it though! I’ve used it for the past 15 years, and it’s still in great condition.

Check out Ebay. It's hit or miss, but you can find great deals on clothing that may or may not have been used much. I find wool sweaters and coats there.
You can set up a search and get emails.

Joes S. There are some wool clothing suppliers at SHOT, I stop by and drool on their stuff all the time, if you’d like I can grab brochures and mail them to you or get a card with websites and get them to you. There was one company last year that was from NZ I think that had very awesome looking stuff.
That said, the wooltimate stuff is very nice as well, I’ve had good luck on eBay as well for wool trunk coats and wool ponchos in good hunting colors for use when sitting for long periods in the cold. The trunk coat style was very popular in UK/Europe in the 70’s and good wool.

When it is COLD out I still tend to favor wool clothes. Last time I was Elk hunting in UT it was about 0F. We were trudging through waist deep snow for the better part of a week until we finally connected. My buddy was wearing lined jeans which froze while we were dragging the carcasses out of the river we shot them in. His pant legs froze in maybe ten minutes, mine were fine. Need to order me up some more LL Bean wool long sleeve Henleys, ok, just did, on sale even!
