A friend of mine has a 50th year 44 magnum flat top he cannot sell he was wondering if its frame a suitable platform for one of the .50 calibers

Seems like the 44 is on the full size frame.

Its a larger frame than the 357 or 44 special flat top but I am not sure it is as large or strong as a conventional Ruger?

No problem whatsoever. It's a full size frame and still has more top strap to it than a Vaquero. Also, I talked to Mr. Bowen about a .500 Linebaugh on mine. It was indefinately postponed once he quoted me a price on a tapered ribbed ovate barrel.

Never seen one but I like the idea. Should be plenty strong.

It was indefinately postponed once he quoted me a price on a tapered ribbed ovate barrel. Didn't Bowen specifically state in his book that an ovate ribbed bbl (along with a S&W profile bbl created from scratch for a Ruger SA) could very easily eat up most, if not all, of a $1000 bill? UGH! Len, I think we'd all love to see a .50 Cal flattop conversion once done. Max.

UGH! Actually Max - in the book he states it will eat up ALL of a $1000 bill and MOST of another. Or at least it should.

I am going to encourage him to have it done. I think the flat top receiver would look really cool and apparently a Bisley grip to tame recoil is not a problem.
I was not sure about a Blackhawk (flat top) frame vs the Super Blackhawk frame handling the higher pressure.

Any SBH with the sight pin low enough below the plane of the flatness can be made into a Flattop... Our good friend sixshot has one that I am sure we will see pics of soon... Of course the Anniversary guns are showing up on the used market at decent prices now so why bother... ;D

I've had a couple of guns flat topped. If you hold it just right you can see where it was welded. Annealing or case hardening would hide it though.

Heehe. Bad syntax on my part. Dave surprised me on the rear sight but still, it shot like a house afire. Er, shoots like a house afire.
